Community organizing played a key role in Obama's 2008 election victory by training volunteers and leaders across the country. However, the Obama administration failed to maintain these community organizing efforts and connections after taking office. As a result, many former organizers became disappointed and disengaged, which likely contributed to Democratic losses in the 2010 primaries. To succeed in 2012 and beyond, the Obama administration needs to reengage former organizers, keep them motivated and involved, and utilize their skills and local connections.
