Farmland is disappearing across the country as it becomes overfarmed and obsolete, contributing to rising food prices. To combat this, urban farming is growing as a solution, with 50% of the world's population now living in cities. Urban agriculture, or cultivating food in and around cities, helps feed urban residents and save low-income households significant portions of their income on food each year. City Farmer, an organization promoting urban farming for 33 years, teaches city dwellers how to grow food and compost waste to make cities more sustainable. Vertical and rooftop farming are proposed solutions to address the lack of space issue in cities for urban agriculture.
