The City Council of Honolulu passed Resolution 12-90 requesting that the city administration initiate acquiring or condemning the land beneath "Phase 5" of Kahuku Village in order to preserve affordable housing for current residents. Phase 5 contains approximately 70 homes occupied by long-time, low-to-moderate income residents with deep connections to the area. The resolution aims to secure the future of Phase 5 residents as the lands have been subject to development proposals that leave their situation insecure.
