This document provides guidelines for citing and quoting poetry in papers and essays, including: 1) Poetry citations require line numbers rather than page numbers and line breaks must be maintained. 2) For 1-3 lines, use quotation marks and indicate line breaks with slashes between line numbers in parentheses. 3) For 4+ lines, indent the block of poetry ten spaces from the left margin. 4) If quoting part of a line, do not use ellipses but indent to indicate it is partial; use ellipses for omitted text within a line.
