Christopher Columbus was born in 1451 in North West Italy and died in 1506. He had two sons, Ferdinand and Diego, and one brother named Bartholomew. Columbus made four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean, discovering lands that became known as the Americas, including the Bahamas and Central America. He is best known as the explorer who opened the doors to the Americas, though he originally set out to find a route to Asia.
