In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed from Spain with the goal of finding a route to Asia but instead discovered what is now known as the Americas. His voyage lasted 70 days across the ocean until land was sighted, though upon returning to Spain without the gold and spices promised, Queen Isabella was angered until Columbus told of the new lands found. Columbus then embarked on three more expeditions to the new world, helping to establish the Columbian exchange between Europe and the Americas.
