What is Christmas?
-Christmas is the time when Christians around
the wolrd celebrate the birth of Jesus.
It is called this way because, we celebrate
'Mass', that means Church service, for Christ.

- Christmas is a truly magical season, bringing
families and friends together to share the much
loved customs and traditions which have been
around for centuries.
What day is the main Christmas
      celebration in UK?
-Like in Spain Christmas is celebrated on the
    25th December, with a Christmas meal at
                 midday for the whole family.
How do the British prepare for
            Christmas?
 - During the weeks before Christmas Day, they
send cards, watch nativity plays and they go to
church services.
-They also put, Christmas decorations in their
homes and in some Churches.
History of British Christmas
     Customs and Traditions


- Many of their Christmas customs began long
before Jesus was born. Long time ago, people
had mid-winter festivals where their ceremonies
would give the sun back it's power.
The romans had the festivals of Saturnalia.
All these factors influenced Christmas
nowadays.
What is Boxing Day?
It is the day after Christmas. It's called Boxing
Day, because boys used to go round collecting
money in clay boxes. When the boxes where
full, they broke them open.
On Boxing Day people usually go shopping.
The Christmas Tree
The Christmas tree is central to English holiday
celebrations. It became important when Queen
Victoria's husband,brought the tradition to the
Royal Family.
Some other traditions are the mixture of
evergreens and the mistletoe.
