Christmas Eve
For Polish people Christmas Eve is
more important than Christmas Day. In
the evening all the family get together.
Dinner starts when the first star
appears in the sky.
Before dinner members of the family
share a holy wafer and wish each
other health and happiness.
THERE ARE USUALLY TWELVE DISHES
ON THE TABLE -
carp, herring, salads, „pierogi” (dumplings)
with cabbage and mushrooms, poppyseed
cake, red borsh and other things.
On Christmas Eve we don’t eat meat.
After dinner people open the presents
waiting for them under the Christmas
tree and they sing carols.
Many people go to church to
attend Midnight Mass.
On the 25th and 26th of December
people visit their relatives or friends
and eat a lot.
