Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men in Europe, with over 417,000 new cases each year. More than 2 million European men are currently living with prostate cancer, and over 92,000 die from the disease annually. The total yearly costs of prostate cancer in Europe exceed 9 billion euros. As populations age and more men survive other diseases, the burden of prostate cancer is expected to increase dramatically in the coming years through higher incidence, prevalence, and costs. Improved screening and treatment can help reduce mortality rates and improve quality of life, but a coordinated effort at the European Union level is needed to prioritize prostate cancer care.
