This project researches the new product development process in the motorsport industry by investigating
modern design and simulation tools and how they can help to streamline the design of race vehicles. By
learning how other industries make use of computational fluid dynamics to develop complex programmes,
this thesis looks at how the motorsport industry can make the best use of tools available to us today - taking
into consideration limiting factors such as time and financial costs, is there a way the motorsport aerodynamic
development process can be improved?
Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) research project
June 2013 - September 2013
An investigation into the characterisation of a racing bike and rider for CFD analysis- to discuss bike and rider
aerodynamic issues with FTR Moto in order to develop specific project objectives. With access to a range
of the data capture technologies within the Product Evaluation Technologies Research Group of WMG, the
effectiveness of scanning bike and rider for CFD analysis was tested. The project was submitted to the URSS
- Undergraduate Research Scholarship Scheme - through a portfolio completed over the Summer along with
a poster presentation at the URSS Awards Ceremony & Poster Showcase.
