The lack of potential leaders is not
founded in the Scriptures.
This is merely a speculation.
Some think that SDA has no
potential leaders who can
lead the organization the
way it was led by the former
leaders.
While others think that they can never run
the mission due to lack of leadership
training and skills.
J. Oswald Sanders,
“Spiritual Leadership”:
“85% of spiritual leaders are made
through the influence of others. They
became effective leaders because of
the training and experience they
gained from the past and improve in
the present”.
In reality, leadership
crisis in a strong
organization is the
product of leadership
who carries the
leadership whenever
they leave.
They never lay any
foundation to build
great leaders for the
future, nothing more
and nothing less.
J.A Maxwell said:
A legacy of a leader is
created only when a
person puts his organi-
zation into the position
to do great things
without him.”
Ex 18:21
But select capable men from
all the people--men who fear
God, trustworthy, men who hate
dishonest gain... (NIV)
1. Men who are
capable
2. Men who fear God,
3. Men who could be
trusted
4. Men who are honest
“Choose seven men from among
you who are known to be full of the
Spirit and Wisdom…They chose
Stephen, a man full of faith and of
the Holy Spirit” (Acts 6:3,5).
1. Men full of the Spirit
and Wisdom
2. Men full of faith and
of the Holy Spirit
I - Spirituality coupled with wisdom
Selection of Christian
leaders must not
be influenced by worldly
wisdom, wealth, or social
status. The prime
consideration is
spirituality.
Selecting leaders apart
from spiritual
qualifications always
leads to unspiritual
Administration and
directions.
Although spirituality
gives wisdom for a leader
but being spiritual alone
is not enough.
Wisdom given by God
acquired through
outpouring of the Holy
Spirit or through
education.
Wisdom is a pre-requisite for
successful leadership.
“For I will give you
words and wisdom
that none of your
adversaries will be
able to resist or
contradict.”
Luke 21:15 NIV
John R. Mott - a world leader in student
circles, believed that
“A leader is a man who
knows the road, who can
keep ahead, and who
pulls others after him.”
II - Personal Integrity
God wants his
People to show
a transparent
character, open
and innocent
of deception.
A prominent businessman once
replied to a question regarding
the important quality of a top
Manager:
“If I had to name the one most
important quality of a top
manager, I would say personal
integrity.”
Spiritual leader must be:
* sincere in promise
* faithful in discharge of duty
* upright in finances
* loyal in service
* and honest in speech
Paul served God with
clear conscience
I thank God whom I
serve with a clear
conscience, as did my
fathers, when I
remember you
constantly in my
prayers.
2 Tim. 1:3 RSV
He speak before God
with sincerity
2 Cor. 2:17 NIV
Unlike so many, we do
not peddle the word
of God for profit. On
the contrary, in
Christ we speak
before God with
sincerity, like men
sent from God.
III - Delegate “your
Responsibilities to Train Them
“The things you have
heard me say in the
presence of many
witnesses entrust to
reliable men who will
also be qualified to teach
others” (2 Tim. 2:2)
To succeed in getting things done
through others is the highest
type of leadership.
D.E. Hoste
“the capacity to
appreciate gifts of widely
varying kinds of workers,
is the main quality for
oversight in a mission
such as ours.”
Ex 18:17-18
17 "It's not right!" his father-in-law
exclaimed. 18 "You're going to wear
yourself out-and if you do, what will
happen to the people? Moses, this
job is too heavy a burden for you to
try to handle all by yourself.
Ex 18:21
21 "Find some capable, godly, honest
men who hate bribes, and appoint
them as judges…
It is a big mistake
for a good leader to
assume more duties
than he can
discharge.
Leaders must multiply themselves
by developing younger leaders,
giving them full play and adequate
outlet for their abilities.
W.E. Sangster
The greatest grasp of
leadership was knowing
the importance of
delegation and of
choosing assistants
with care…
The spiritual leader’s
primary task is to
build the faith of
others through
proper delegation of
his work.
Delegation is the
most effective way of
training Christians
for the spiritual
leadership.
Frank Buchman once said:
“If you failed to train
others to do your
work better than you
did, you had failed.”
IV - Use Spiritual Gifts to Focus
in the Ministry
Any person can
steer the ship but
it takes a leader to
chart the course”
John Maxwell
Leaders cannot be equipped to
all aspects of God’s service.
The ministry is not electronic
equipment, but a body with
discernible parts.
Some of us have been
given special ability as
apostles; to others he
has given the gift of
being able to preach
well; some have special
ability in winning
people to Christ,
helping them to trust
him as their Savior; Eph. 4:11 TLB
still others have a gift
for caring for God's
people as a shepherd
does his sheep, leading
and teaching them in
the ways of God.
Eph. 4:11 TLB
Every person has a
field of effectiveness.
As much as possible,
focus your life and
ministry on your own
field in order to become
effective and productive.
No one is strong in every
area of life. To produce
leaders, find people in your
organization, whom God has
equipped to minister effectively in
the important areas, develop them in
your organization through the art of
delegation. For where you are weak
others are strong!
A.W. Tozer said :
“A true and safe leader is
likely to be one who has no
desire to lead, but is forced
into a position by inward
pressure of the Holy Spirit
and the press of
circumstances…
The man who is ambitious to lead
is disqualified as a leader.
The true leader will have no
desire to Lord it over God’s
heritage, but will be humble,
gentle, self-sacrificing and
altogether ready to follow
when the spirit chooses another
to lead.”
Abraham
Joseph
Moses
David
Leaders who never aspire
to put into leadership but
they simply do their job
faithfully and honestly.
Joshua
Peter
Paul
other disciples
of Jesus
David, Joshua, Peter, Paul
and other disciples of
Jesus are good leaders who
never aspire to put into
leadership but they simply
do their job faithfully and
honestly.
The 4 star general and the soldier who was blind due to bombing
of the embassy in Beruit
“I understand it’s your birthday today.” And he said, “Give me your hand.”
And as he held up his hand, the general put four stars in his hand and
said, “these are for you young man, HAPPY Birthday.”
“simper fie” which means
“always faithful.”
This young marine
was simply saying,
“I do not deserve anything
extra. I was simply remaining
faithful.”
My life, your life are in His hands
We can have victories with Him
We can have victories with Him
