Princess Mary of Edinburgh became Queen Regina Maria of Romania after marrying King Ferdinand I of Romania. As queen, she was very popular both in Romania and abroad. In 1926, Queen Maria and two of her children undertook a diplomatic tour of the United States. After struggling in the early years of their marriage, Queen Maria and King Ferdinand learned to live together well. However, Queen Maria's life was cut short when she died on July 18, 1938 at the age of 57.
