This is a YANG DESIGN partnership project with CITYZINE for a lifestyle research of China’s sub-culture in the past 14 years. Our society will become more and more focused on sub-cultural group and personalization. In this research, we combined the specialty and trends of the China’s sub-culture, wondering if their life condition will continue as is, or go back to the main stream. We wanted to understand the meaning of sub-culture’s existence for main stream, businesses, and brands. This is a YANG DESIGN CMF(Color, Material, Finishing) lab project commissioned by Swedish Wood. It includes Chinese wood preference, Chinese aesthetic value application, Chinese design trend and CMF forecast application. Part of the study report was released in the design forum during Guangzhou Furniture Fair in March 2014, which was organized by China National Furniture Association and China Timber Wood Products Distribution Association. It provides insights on Chinese consumer’s aesthetic and value preference for wood products, aiming to help improve representative Swedish wood like red wood pine and spruce’s application in wood product design to feed China market. It will suggest to leverage CMF design thinking to enrich product characteristics, categories and applying space.
