This document summarizes meetings and interviews conducted by a SAIS China Studies team in Ghana and Ethiopia regarding China's increasing presence in Africa. The team met with government officials, NGOs, and Chinese companies to discuss topics like China's approach to aid and investment in Africa compared to Western approaches, potential competition with the US, and environmental impacts of Chinese-backed infrastructure projects. They also toured development sites like the new African Union headquarters and the Chinese-backed Bui hydroelectric dam in Ghana.
