• Chilton Library is hosted by Gale Cengage Learning
• Cengage serves higher education, K-12, professional, library and workforce training markets.
• Gale has partnered with academic institutions, schools and public libraries for over 65 years.

3. HOW TO ACCESS
• Chilton Library uses JavaScript, Adobe Reader and Adobe lash Player
• Chilton Library is accessible through the supported browsers:
• Windows: IE9 and higher, latest version of Firefox and Chrome
• Mac OSX/iOS: Latest version of Safari, Firefox and Chrome
• Android: Latest version of Firefox and Chrome
• Open your preferred browser and type https://www.chiltonlibrary.com/lh
• To use, one must have a library card and enter their ID number

Selecting a Vehicle
• To begin, select a specific vehicle that you are
interested in
• Use the left navigation bar
• The series of drop-down menus will allow you to
select the vehicle you would like to find

• Each drop-down menu is determined by the selection above it.
• For example: “Select a Make” list is based on the “Select a Year”
value

• After selecting your vehicle, the Chilton Library
will present the vehicle data and present
categories that are avliable

• Chilton Library may return up to four categories of information
• These categories are
• Repair
• Maintenance
• Labor Estimating
• Bulletins/Records
• If a category does not show, it means that the Chilton Library
does not have this vehicle information available yet
• Select a category from the selection results to be sent to that
section of the application

Repair
• Once you click the repair category, it will be accessible even if
you decide to search a separate category of the vehicle
• Just select the Repair tab on the navigation bar to return to the
Repair screen

• After selecting Repair from the Data available, it will lead
you to the Repair manual of the vehicle you selected
• The window will have two panes
• On the left will be the subcategories for the vehicle selected
• The right will display the information the subcategory you
selected
• Note: Repair subcategories will differ based on the vehicle
selected

• The table of contents is laid out on the left-hand
side. For demonstration, we will gather general
information about the 2010 Toyota Camry:
1. Click on of the categories of vehicle on the left pane
Once selected, more options will be displayed
These are branches from the root system General
Information & Identification. They will be represented
by the breadcrumb trail at the top of the pane
2. Selection General Maintenance (2020 Camry HV From
01/2009), the subcategory of Engine, will display any
other categories that are associated with the topic
This topic is the lowest subcategory, thus there are no
oher selections

• The right pane will display all the detailed
information for the General Maintenance (2010
Camry HV From 01/2009)
• There is a ReadSpearkerTM for text-to-speech
functionality
• Pause and Stop are available
• In setting, users can change the speed, highlighter
color and font size
• Audio content from the Repair section can be
downloaded as an MP3 file for users to save and
access ofline

Vehicle Maintenance
• If the Maintenance category is available after initially
selecting a vehicle, you can choose it to research
maintenance information
• This information will be accessible even if you are on
a separate category of the vehicle. Just click the
Maintenance tab on the top navigation bar from any
screen to return to the Maintenance screen

1. After selecting the Maintenance option from the
Vehicle Selection Results, the site will guide you
to the Maintenance Chart for the specific vehicle
you selected
2. Once opened, the Vehicle Configuration Filter will
be presented to you. It allows you to choose the
characteristics for the configuration you are
interested in.
Each selection will filter the available choices in
the sections.
You will be presented with only the values that is
available, you can click the “full chart list” link
that is next to the Vehicle Configuration Filter

2. From the chart list, you can select the vehicle
configuration you are interested in to view the
maintenance schedule

2. After a chart has been selected, you will be shown
mileage-based service recommendation for that vehicle
configuration and selected operating conditions
To scroll between different milage intervals, select the
“<<Look Back” and “Look Ahead>>” links. It will move you
backward and forward to the next recommended service
interval.
In the “Enter Mileage” box, you can enter the vehicle’s
current mileage and then click enter
It will bring up the recommended service interval for the
milage entered, the milage is round up to the next
recommended service intervals.
To see the full maintenance chart with all the defined
service interval, select the “View Full Chart” link.

3. To hide the Vehicle Configuration Filter
selections, click “Collapse Filter” and to see the
selections again click “Expand Filter”

Labor Estimating
• If the Labor Estimating Category is available for your
selected vehicle, you will be able to lookup Chilton labor
times for various operations perform on your vehicle
Information is updated on an ongoing basis to ensure the
most up-to-date date on the selected vehicle
• Once you click the Labor Estimating category, it will be
accessible even if you decide to search a separate category
of the vehicle
• Just select the Labor Estimating tab on the navigation bar
to return to the Labor Estimating screen

• Once on the Labor Estimating section, you will see a
Search Operations window. It will allow you to
search for specific labor option or pick from multiple
defined labor operations for your selected vehicle
• If you would like to look at a different vehicle than
what you had selected, click on View Operations,
there is drop down menu to select a difference
vehicle

• To perform a text box search for labor operations, enter the
terms you wish to search for, like “transaxle,” in the text box
and click search
• All the Standard Operations that match the search text will be
presented
• You can select one of the operations listed to more detailed
selections or search again to narrow your results
• If this did not come with expected results, you can enter new
search terms and try to search again

• Alternatively, you can see the tree of defined labor operations
for vehicle by clicking on View Operations button.
• It will display full labor operation table of contents for the
selected vehicle

• Just like the repair Table of Contents, you can go down various
labor operations to find the labor times you are looking for
• The available Labor Operations that are listed for a Regular
service type situation, as noted by the Time Category
“Regular” time category is defined by the labor times for most
everyday normal use
• You can also get Labor Times based severe service schedule by
clicking the Severe label
“Severe” time category is defined by heavy use, high mileage,
dirty or rusted items, etc. which will cause the hours to change
because of the extra work that will be involved

• In the image to the right, the labor times shown are
the number of recommended hours it would take
to drain and refill an installed transaxle on a 2010
Toyota Camry
• There are also OEM times listed, these are
recommended times from the manufacturers.
Regular and Severe times are calculated by Chilton
Editors based on real world experience
• Chilton does not provide local labor cost as there
are too many variable to consider with each repair
and locality

Bulletins/Recalls
• If the Technical Service Bulletins (Bulletins/Recalls) category is
available for your selected vehicle, you can research any
released technical service documentation about it
• Once you click the Technical Service Bulletins
(Bulletins/Recalls) category, it will be accessible even if you
decide to search a separate category of the vehicle
• Just select the Bulletins/Recalls tab on the navigation bar to
return to the Bulletins/Recalls screen

• You will see the search results page after clicking
the Bulletins/Recall link or tab
• It will initially show unfiltered results for your
selected vehicle

• To narrow down the results, there are Advanced
Filters or the Quick Search boxes at the top of he
page
• Advanced Filters will allow for you to search for
Bulletins/Recalls by the affected System, vehicle
operating Symptoms or a Diagnostic Trouble
code
• The drop-down options are populated based on
the Bulletins/Recalls assigned to this vehicle

• The Quick Search box allows for Bulletins/Recalls number
or any keywords you wish to search
• If you wish to see just Recalls, selecting the “Only Show
Recalls” will show the desired results.
• After entering the desired criteria click on the Search
Button to get your results

• After filtering, only what matches the criteria will
be listed
• To view a Bulletins/Recalls, move your mouse onto
the desire line
Then click anywhere on the highlighted line
• Clicking on the speaker icon will allow the user to
listen to the bulletin

It will open the bulletin in a new window, and to
play the audio, click the Listen button

• The ASE Test Prep area of ChiltonPro allows you
to take sample ASE Test Preparation Exams
• Selecting one of the tests provided will open the
test in a new window
• The tests are multiple choice and can be taken
as many times as needed
• To begin, click on the ASE test prep quizzes from
the main menu
