"Art is able to reflect the celebration of the simple and good things of life. This is the most important to me!"

About the Artist and the Art
The art of Romero Britto gathers symbiotic elements of popular culture from Pernambuco – a state in Brazil –with sophisticated graphic composition,
in the presence of the hybridism of the postmodern art and the "glocalization" (global and local) culture of the Contemporary.
Romero started drawing very young, copying the works of other artists he saw in books. He used to articulate compositions in a way that was
simplified and naГЇve, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The yellow is also another evident color in the art. Yellow symbolizes wisdom, joy and happiness. This is the message that Romero Britto wants to
show in all his paintings – the celebration of a happy life.
We can observe a little bit of blue on the globe that the children are holding, which represents the ocean, but also we can observe it on the children's
body, with another meaning. The dark blue is the color of truth and moderation. The turquoise, found on the hair of the boy is the symbol of youth, and
also the color of communication. It contains the growth quality of green with the blue quality of communication. Finally, the aqua is the color of high
ideals.
Brown and green are other colors found in the art. Combined, they represent wholesomeness and earthiness. They can signify growth and represent the
simplicity, friendliness, dependability, renewal, and environment.
The Shapes and Lines
Talking about the lines, we can observe that the picture contains curves, parallel lines, and diagonal lines. Analyzing the shapes, we can find circles and
organic shapes (for example, the flowers).
Circles represent the eternal whole and in every culture are the form that represents the sun, the earth, the moon, and the universe. They have free
movement, are warm, comforting and give a sense of sensuality and love. Their movement suggests energy and power. Their completeness suggests the
infinite, unity, and

Kim Kardashian Stereotypes
There isn't one single reality television show or reality t.v. show star in particular that is stereotyped to a typical standard, though as reality television
stars gain more popularity and try to build their brands, to have the perfect body is often the stereotype that all genders go through. Transsexual and
transgendered celebrities have also spoke about the necessity to display the perfect body because they were born men, and have to exceed women, when
speaking about beauty, just to fit in. Everyone loves to use the Kardashians as an example so why not. Kim Kardashian from Keeping Up With The
Kardashians is known for her "perfect hour glass figure" with large breasts, a tiny waist, and bigger–than–average booty (and yes I said booty!). She is
regarded as many for having the perfect body, and other women have felt the pressure to emulate her body in order to achieve the same vanity appeal. ...

With her being taller and simply having a different body structure than Kim, many blogs and commentators bash her constantly because she doesn't fit
their mold of the "it–girl". Other reality television show stars also find it difficult staying on top. Shows produced by VH1 and Bravo like Love and
Hip–Hop, Real Housewives of Atlanta and Beverly Hills, and even Botched. Documents how women more so than men, use cosmetic surgery to
enhance their body so that they fit in with the celebrity Hollywood culture. On Love and Hip–Hop, most of the cast members are of native ethnic
descent (being African–American/Black, Caribbean, Latino/Hispanic). Therefore beauty is even more stigmatized, in my opinion, from the
communities that these women are either from or are idolized by. Women in the Black community are known to have big butts, fuller breasts, thick
thighs and lovely curves. That's a lot to live up to if you didn't get it from your

Sampling Hispanic Adults by Telephone1
Problem: Researchers wanted to determine how aware adult Hispanics in the San Francisco area are of product warning messages and signs concerning
cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, and other consumer products. The researchers needed to contact a sample of them to interview.
A Solution: "Respondents were sampled using...random digit dialing. This procedure...avoids the use of directories with their inherent problem of the
exclusion of unlisted numbers while guaranteeing equal probability of selection for all telephone numbers. Such an approach has been used in a
number of telephone surveys with Hispanics and has been shown to be not only feasible but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Case Study 3 on Sampling
Using Quota Sampling1
Problem: Professors with limited resources usually find it difficult to obtain adequate samples of the general adult population for their research.
Instead, many study samples of college students, who are readily available, even though there is no reason to believe that samples of college students
are representative of the national population of adults. (Of course, often professors are interested in the behavior of college students only, in which
case, using college students is not a problem.)
A Solution: "In order to reach a wide range of people, the data were collected using a purposive, quota design. Students enrolled in a research methods
class...were given course credit for collecting the data for this study. These research assistants were...instructed to recruit adults (not college students)
that they knew in six age and gender quotas (male and female: 18–34, 35–49, and 50 and older) to complete questionnaires. Because the students were

US Hispanic Women and Fertility Rates
Of all the racial groups in the U.S., Hispanic women have the greatest fertility rate. The health care system in the U.S. is used less than its full capacity
by Hispanic women, especially after recent migration to the U.S. Among recent immigrants, protective factors such as traditions, health values and
behaviors are shown to guard and strengthen health. Safeguards to health deteriorate sharply as they acculturate to U.S. society ((Sanchez–Birkhead,
2010).
Acculturation is the extent to which an individual from one non–dominant group adopts parts of the dominant group's culture (Roncancio, 2011). A
research study was performed to understand the link between cultural and traditional health beliefs and its effect on health care decision making using
Dr. Nancy Krieger's ecosocial framework. Dr. Krieger, professor of social epidemiology at Harvard School ofPublic Health, designed the framework to
examine closely social inequalities in health and disease distribution within a population (Krieger, 2014).
A narrative analysis was made from a small sample group of 20 immigrant women. Interviews were conducted in both English and Spanish. The
average duration of interviews was about 1–2 hours. As part of the study, demographic data was gathered along with an acculturation scale. An average
scale of 2.99 was determined whether a participant is of high or low acculturation status. Twelve questions pertaining to each participant's choice of
language within social interactions at

Analyze The Reasons For The Causes Of Death Among Hispanic...
Introduction There are many reasons for the differences in deaths among men and women of Hispanic race versus non–Hispanic. For some diseases
whites have the higher rates for deaths and for other disease Hispanics carry the higher percentage. Diseases are not the only causes of deaths,
suicide, addiction and accidents are also other causes of death. There are many factors that contribute to these differences and the disparities among
these different races vary from income and lack of resources due to discrimination. Services vary depending on who the person is, where they live,
and what they look like. A major difference in deaths among males is the percentage of death from HIV. Hispanic males are three times more likely
to die from HIV than white males. A reason for this may be that Hispanics are less likely to have access to health care services and unable to receive
the proper treatment, resulting in an untreated problem causing death. The CDC states that Hispanic males are more likely to contract HIV from
having sexual intercourse with another man and is the primary source from contracting the disease. ( Fact Sheet HIV among Latinos, 2017).... Show

Every 7 in 10 suicides are from white males and they are mostly men who are middle aged (Suicide Statistics, 2016). A common trend sn high death
rate for suicide is that the men lack higher education past high school. Those who do not have higher education could have problems with seeking
higher paying jobs which is causing stress and leading to factors for the causes of suicide. People who are not educated are struggling to make ends

The City Of Chicago, Illinois
The city of Chicago, Illinois has a total population of 2,695,598. The largest population out of my three cities, the population is composed of 31.7
percent non– Hispanic whites and the second largest contributor to the city's total population is Non–Hispanic Blacks with 32.4 percent. Hispanic or
Latinos consist of 28.9 percent of the population. I have chosen this city as an immigrant city due to the sheer numbers of Hispanic population. Another
reason it was chosen as such, was because out of the 2,695,598 people there are 572,416 foreign born people and out of that total Hispanic origin
people consist of 28.4 percent. This is not looking into the naturalized citizens and the non–citizen's percentages of those who are foreign born, I ...

These new comers arrive to Chicago in the hopes they could get a better lifestyle, but fail to have the appropriate requirements to legally work
causing the unemployment rates to rise. The city's hike in population also has caused a major construction of housing units, but there seems to be a
substantial disconnect between the increase in homes and the decline of occupied homes. This could be contributed to the fact that perhaps that
although more homes are being built the population cannot afford to occupy them. The city of Chicago may also have such a successful population
(in terms of quantity) due to the grid system of the streets. It has been proven that a city with a stable and easily comprehensible grid system is
more likely to succeed no example of a city we can see that had a decline is Detroit of part of its failure was due to the structuring of the city. The
city of New Orleans, Louisiana has a total population of 343,829. The smallest population total out of all my three cities, the population declined by
140,845 people from 2000–2010. This is taking into account the divesting damages hurricane Katrina (2008) left behind. The Hurricane misplaced

The Importance Of Environmental Control
Environmental Control Environmental control is defined as the "ability of the person to control nature and to plan and direct factors in the
environment that affect them" (Giger and Davidhizar 2002). Some cultures believe they control nature to meet their needs. Others believe more in
external and control and instead believe nature dominates the individual. Culture greatly influences beliefs about environmental control.
Biological Variations
Diversity within a culture includes biological variations in physiological, physical, and cognitive characteristics. For example, there is evidence
suggesting different races metabolize drugs differently (Giger and Davidhizar 2002). Another difference is the differences between racial groups and
susceptibility to disease.
Hispanic Culture
Communication
Most Hispanic immigrants speak English fluently, however there are still many that speak mostly, if not all, Spanish (CDC 2011). Hispanics view
verbal communication as courteous and respectful. However, in nonverbal communication maintaining eye contact may be interpreted as a challenge to
some Hispanic cultures. Overall, Hispanic social norms emphasize the importance of communication both verbal and nonverbal in relationships (CDC
2011).
In Hispanic culture, developing a personal relationship is extremely important (Galanti 2008). Generally, a nurse who focuses on the patient's family
and interests before discussing anything "health–care" related will result a more trusting

Legal And Social Justice For Hispanics And Women
Legal and Social Justice for Latinos and Women America is most known for its diversity, with immigrants from almost everywhere on Earth. The
American Dream has lured many minorities to the land of the free and home of the brave, in search of opportunity. Though the U.S. is known for its
"American Dream," America does not have equal opportunity for all of its people. Women and Latinos, specifically, have been denied social and legal
equality, with both movements starting in the 1960`s. Latinos had the Chicano movement while women had the second wave of a feminist movement,
with similarities and differences in their goals, means, and results. Although Latinos focused on reforming education and work conditions and women
wanted to reform their image in society, both educated the public through organizations and used protests to gain limited success of better job
opportunity though are still viewed as inferior to white men. The Chicano movement and the Feminist movement wanted to attack society 's unequal
and biased perception of women and Latinos in the 1960`s. Women were suppose to marry young then stay home and take care of the children while
Latinos were perceived as inferior for being minorities. In schools there was no bilingual education and Latinos couldn 't speak Spanish. Most schools
hardly taught about the history of Latinos which was also problematic because Americans did not view Latinos as Americans. They viewed them as
foreigners that came to America, a country

Esperanza's Identity
Esperanza's gradual establishment of her identity as an independent woman in The House On Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, is illuminated as she
encounters multiple hardships that relate to the unfair expectations put on Hispanics and the mistreatment of women. For example, in the vignettes
"Cathy Queen of Cats" and "A Smart Cookie", Esperanza is faced with two occurrences in which the racist expectations of Hispanics are revealed.
Specifically, in "Cathy Queen of Cats", Esperanza's first friend Cathy, says that she will be moving away in the next week. Cathy states "...the
neighborhood is getting bad."(Cisneros 13). In this statement, Cathy is illuminating that she will be moving away because more and more

facilities (Reichert et al., 2007). This particular argument may stem from the lack of safe, but free, areas to exercise; many low–income neighborhoods
do not have safe sidewalks, parks, or even free recreation centers to participate even if the desire was there. A prevalent argument that both African
American and Hispanic women use as to their inability to obtain a healthy exercise routine is that the additional money needed to provide for
childcare while exercising does not suffice a cost to benefit (Reichert et al., 2007). A study done in regards to the Hispanic population found that in the
case of parents, money would be spent on a child's participation in sports or exercise before an adult (Steenhuis, Nooy, Moes, & Schuit, 2009). That...

One particular barrier that has been found to have an indirect effect on physical activity is self–efficacy and self–motivation. Self–efficacy allows
humans to overcome barriers such as feeling tired to exercise; because of social norms, it is harder for females to have high self–efficacy and in turn,
harder to overcome barriers to motivation (Louw, Van Biljon, & Mugandani, 2012). Age can most certainly stand in the way of ones motivation;
younger groups of people cite that not having a workout partner keeps them exercising while the senior groups barrier was simply the lack of
knowledge about how their bodies respond to certain exercises, as well as the health issues that come with growing older (Louw et al., 2012).
Additionally, older adults are rarely met with successful stories of aging by the media, which establishes a stigma that the ability to retain health
throughout ones lifespan is non–existent, and therefore the motivation to try is wasted (Louw et al., 2012). Race plays a part in the motivation of
exercise; majority races are more likely to exercise for weight and stress management, as well a revitalization and enjoyment, while minority races tend
to exercise to avoid health issues in the future or circumvent behavioral problems (Egli, land, Melton, & Czech, 2011). While the same motivational

Bien Pretty Analysis
Woman Hollering Creek, by Sandra Cisneros gives a vivid and imaginative view into the Hispanic culture. Cisneros expertly weaves ideas and truths
of the world, from her insight on economics, religion, and gender. For example, she depicts the lives of mistresses and how their lives affected
themselves and others. Cisneros's conclusion about these women is definitely negative in tone she pities the women in these positions and wishes to
reach out to them. Proof of this concept comes from Cisneros's most notable contribution to the literary and social worlds comes in the form of one of
her short stories, "Bien Pretty", which delves into the sad realty and hope–filled possibilities for women. Analyzing these facets of Cisneros work better
informs and challenges readers to rise above the stereotypes of society. To begin, throughout Cisneros's work Hispanicwoman have been depicted as
mistresses to men. In other words, these women because of the pressures and stereotypes of the culture are somewhat forced into this role of being
completely helpless to men. In "Bien Pretty" this idea is no exception, the main protagonist Lupe doesn't so much embody a mistress rather she is very
dependent on the love and care of a man. Hispanic women are brought up to marry and have children; Lupe has been trained to some extent to want to
be taken care of. This reality of dependency goes further when Lupe tells readers of love in Spanish. She longs for the sweet Spanish utterances of a
man in her ear and his warm embrace, "to make love in Spanish in a manner as intricate and devout as la Alhambra. To have a lover sigh mi vida, mi
preciosa, mi Chiquita, and whisper things in that language crooned to babies, that language muttered by grandmothers, those words that smelled like
your house, like flour tortillas, and the inside of your daddy's hat, like everyone talking in the kitchen at the same time, or sleeping with the windows
open." In this manner, whenever Lupe hears these words from men she cant helps but fall for them. However, this idea of what loves is really, just
isn't. Cisneros's shows readers how these woman's almost deceive themselves into a extremely dependent desire for companionship. Although hope is
not lost,

Maria, The Only Latina, And The Person Of Color
Introduction In this scenario, Maria, who is of Latino ancestry made a complaint about being passed over for a promotion because she is a Latina;
she was born in America, and is a second generation. Maria holds a graduate degree, and has been with this company for 10 years, but has been in
her position for seven years. The person who got the promotion was Alex, who is an Anglo, and has a graduate degree. However, he has less time
in the company or in this position, and had better evaluations than Maria. Maria is the only Latina, and the only person of color; she believes that
the reason her evaluations were lower, were because of bias towards white males, and because of the fear of clients not being able to understand
her accent. Maria claimed that her company was being discriminatory towards her. The company says that she is a good employee, but that she is
loud and aggressive when talking with her follower workers and superiors. The company also states that Maria is tardy a lot, and that she always
cites her family as the reason to this problem. According to the company, Maria's rapid speaking and accent would make it hard for her to
communicate with clients. From this scenario, it brings up the issue of how women are still seen as being inferior to men when it comes to the
business setting (Harvey & Allard, 2012). This scenario also talks about how someone who is part of the minority is also seen as being inferior to
White Americans. From all of this, it creates a

Women During The Hispanic Culture Essay
Women in the Hispanic culture grow up with strong ties to their values, norms and how they were raised by their families. Parents instill a
"machismo" and familism ideology into the upbringing of these women (Fuchsel, 2012). "Machismo" is a term to describe what is acceptable and
expected of men (Fuschel,2012). Familism is, "the subordination of the personal interests and prerogatives of an individual to the values and demands
of the family" (dictionary.com). An example of "machismo" is that it is not seen as a problem for men to be unfaithful (Fuschel, 2012). Women would
continue to stay with the men, because of the strong sense of familism and not wanting to break the family apart (Fuschel,2012). Also, the strong tie to
family makes it difficult to express the troubles in a marriage, because family may be unwilling to help (Fuschel,2012). Machismo and familism affect
Hispanic women in their day–to–day lives and how they approach marriages and relationships (Fuschell,2012).
Domestic violence is an issue that has not been given much attention in the Hispanic culture as it is seen as a norm. Domestic violence is defined "as a
pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner"
(justice.gov). Hispanics are affected more than the non–Hispanic populations when it comes to the consequences domestic violence brings and also the
constant occurrence of domestic violence in the Hispanic

Puerto Rican Culture
The term Hispanic refers to people who are capable of speaking and comprehending the Spanish language, and whose ancestry identifies with the
Hispanic culture. The three main Hispanic groups in the United States are Cubans, Mexicans, and Puerto Ricans. Puerto Ricans are people who identify
themselves as Hispanics of Puerto Rican origin, meaning they were either born in Puerto Rico, or have family ancestry that traces back to Puerto Rico.
According to Lopez & Patten (2015), in 2013, Puerto Ricans were the second–largest Hispanic origin population living in the United States, accounting
for 9.5%. This population continues to grow. In fact, between 1980 and 2013, the Puerto Rican population in the United States had increased by 56%
(Lopez & Patten, 2015). Puerto Rican culture is unique, and quite complex. To gain knowledge and a better understanding of the Puerto Rican culture, I
attended the Puerto Rican Festival held in Milwaukee, and conducted an interview with Melinda Nieves, a Puerto Rican woman living in Appleton.
Through these experiences, I found that Puerto Rican culture is centered around language, family, and religion, as well as music and delicious food.
Language in the Puerto Rican Culture One of the first things I noticed while attending the Puerto Rican Festival was the language differences (2017).
Most people spoke Spanish, and Spanish seemed to be their preferred language over English. At the festival, it was difficult to communicate. People

Serve Me: The Role Of Women In The Hispanic Family
"Serve me."
Growing up, those two words have always left my stomach in knots and caused my eyebrows to come together in confusion. At the tender age of 8,
family parties were meant to be fun and enjoyable, but whenever I heard an uncle or grandfather say those two words I was left in a state of
discomfort without really knowing why.
"Serve me."
In any Hispanic family, a few certain core values and traditions are kept up from generation to generation. A few of these values include being
hospitable and showing respect, but there was always one value that was never explicitly stated that I could never really wrap my head around. That
value was that women are to dedicate themselves to their husbands and assure that their husband is happy. In my mind, it partially made sense that in a
marriage one is essentially "dedicating" themselves to their significant other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

I didn't really grasp the significance of what I overheard until later that night. The man's tone infuriated me. Who was he to decide what a women can

Ever since that night, I set my mind on proving to my family that women are more than homemakers and that's what pushed me to apply for
University High School when I was 13. I chose to apply and attend the school because I knew the college preparatory school would only push me to
make the most out of my education. Every day of my life since has been dedicated to challenging the idea that women are nothing more than
homemakers.

Hispanic Women In Othello
In Shakespeare's tragedy Othello, the title character, is a 16th century Moorish general of the Venetian army who, because of the cultural and historical
background of the play's setting, and the original intended audience, is portrayed as both well–respected for his military prowess and belittle for his
race. This later causes Othello to limit himself to the majority of things that come his way, his relationship with Desdemona, which creates conflict.
Similarly, Hispanic women are treasured but they are despairing because they increase the Hispanic population causing chaos between society. On the

Evaluation Of A Brain Break And Release Energy
Norms Norms are the expectations of society put on its members (p. 58). To illustrate, some the students that are ADHD diagnosed have
implemented a mindset that if they get through the last class of the day they are free from doing any assignments outside of the classroom. They
lead away from the norms of the classroom. The norms were that would participate during the whole class period, but not one of these students are
able to make it through the whole class period. Another example, there is a couple of students to leave the classroom under my supervision to
release energy in the gym, but after a couple of days of observing their behavior they start to anticipate that they will go for a run in the gym, so they
will not have to complete their assignment. Furthermore, I have made many adjustments to my guidelines to allow the students to go for a brain
break and release energy. It has become more of an award to the students that have ADHD than an escape from doing an assignment. There are
numerous days the students not allowed to go to release energy because of their actions during class. One time, I discussed with one of the students
that he may be allowed to release energy, but not until he completes the notes portion of the class period. I have a couple of minutes to think about the
decision that he would like to make. He is hesitant about participating during class, so he attempts to disrupt the classroom with inappropriate remarks.

Stereotypes Of Hispanic Women
"Yes, I'm blonde. When I started as an actor, because of the accent and my body and my personality, it was not what the stereotype of the Latina
woman in Hollywood is, so they didn't know where to put me. The blond hair wasn't matching. The moment I put my hair dark, it was better for my
work" (Vergara). The media tends to portray stereotypes of many different people without warnings. So, when people watch TV or listen to the radio
all they get are the generalizations of these different people. One group that has been highly stereotyped and somewhat portrayed in the media are
Hispanic women. How the media portrays Hispanic women is based on both gender and racial stereotypes (Correa, 2010). This portrayal of
Hispanic women impacts people in many ways. Sofia Vergara's quote that was stated above is an example of the impact these stereotypes caused; it
was hard for Sofia Vergara to get a job because she didn't look like the stereotypical Hispanic woman and the media continues to portray Hispanic
women as such. One of the largest influences on the roles Hispanic women are expected to play is the media's portrayal of them. The media portrays
Hispanic women by generalizations of how they look, how they act, and how they identify their values.
Before getting into how the media portrays Hispanic women, there must be a clear outlook on the fact that there is very little representation of
Hispanics in the US media. This has a large influence on how people in the US view Hispanics.

Cultural Healthcare Practices of Hispanic Women During...
The United States is comprised of many cultures within a culture. America is composed of a variety of people who all have different beliefs and
traditions, as well as their own unique set of beliefs regarding their healthcare practices. One such group is the Hispanic Americans who have their
own very diverse cultural group. As individuals, they are just like anybody else in any other culture. However, it is worthwhile for a nurse caring for
someone from this culture to know what their distinct cultural beliefs are. People belonging to a Hispanic cultural group are highly attached to the
beliefs and values of their culture and follow them in every aspect of their life (Gallo, 2003). Interestingly, their cultural beliefs even influence the ...

For example, the eldest male of the family is the one who makes healthcare related decisions for the family members and the entire family needs to be
included in all aspects of the patients care (Giger & Davidhizar, 1999). Nurses should conscience of this and try to include family whenever possible.
Time
Hispanics concept of time is very different from that of Americans. According to Giger and Davidhizar (1999), Hispanics are present–time oriented,
which means that they place more importance on the present time than on the future. Therefore, planning care for these patients can pose great
difficulty for the nurse (Giger & Davidhizar, 1999). Nurses need to take the time to educate patients on why it is importance to follow medical
treatment plans, for instance why it's important to take a particular medication on time.
Environmental Control Hispanics believe in external locus of control, which means that they are fatalist and believe that they are under the control of
fate (Giger & Davidhizar, 1999). Due to this believe, they may be more reluctant to comply with healthcare treatment plans and may rely more on folk
medicine, which involves diet, rest, herbs, prayer, and supernatural rituals (Giger & Davidhizar, 1999). Again, patient education is very important in
these situations, although, the nurse does need to allow the patient to incorporate folk medicine practices when possible.

The Physical Portrayals Of Hispanic Women In The Media
The physical portrayal of Hispanic women in the media has a large influence on the Hispanic women and girls that view these portrayals. The media's
physical portrayal of Hispanic women is that they are voluptuous, dark–haired, tanned skin, and petite. There are many films, TV shows, and any other
media outlets that portray Hispanic women as such. Examples of these portrayals are "Modern Family," "Maid in Manhattan," and "Girl in Progress."
In each of these movies or shows, the main character appears as the stereotypical Hispanic woman. This is what many Hispanic women and girls
believe that the world sees them as. They also believe that this is how they should look. This especially affects adolescent girls that identify as
Hispanic. "media use may play a role in the body image development of Latina adolescents" (Schooler, 2008, p. 134). Most of the time when
watching television, Latinas see a white woman and their beauty standards. The difference between white women in the media as opposed to Latin
women is that there is a greater variety of how white women in the U.S. look. When a Latina finally sees someone who is Latina, they expect to see
themselves, instead, they see Eva Mendes, long wavy hair, curvy, and petite. When young Latin women see this, they expect themselves to be the
same way. If they don't look like that, it can result in a spoiled body image of themselves. "Latina women in this sample tended to hold the lowest

(Poran, 2002, p. 79) Latin women understand who they are and when someone is of the same background. Many are also self–conscious about their
bodies, and that is likely due to the fact that not only are actresses on TV shows thin and curvy, but many commercials are about the newest way to
lose weight rapidly, or what to buy to get curves. All women of any race have issues with body Image, but as a Latina, the media plays a big role in
how Latinas form their body image.
According to the media's portrayal of Latin women, there are two ways Latin women act. The first way is passive, pure, and dependent on men; the
second way is wild,

Essay About Being Hispanic Women
Being different, people will always judge me and they will miss out on my abilities and uniqueness. I am not the average Hispanic female society
believes there is. The number of stereotypes towards Hispanics has increased through politics and current events. Which leads to society
automatically assuming Latinos are less than they actually are. Being Hispanic, there will always be assumptions about you and people criticizing
you about everything you do. There will always be expectations for Hispanics because of the stereotypes that are created, that are usually incorrect. As
a Hispanic female, I have always been questioned about my life and my unique personality. There has not been a day where I haven't been questioned
about my life. Over the years, the amount of stereotypes of Hispanics has increased. Knowing there is more stereotypes... Show more content on

Many don't think of you as both, you are either the ideal beautiful Latina or you aren't. Being Mexican, many think you are the type of Latina
people talk about or see on television. They have many stereotypes for Latinas, that may be true for some people but not for others. One of the
biggest stereotypes you hear is that every Latina loves to dance and knows how to dance. I really love to dance, but I dance like I have two left
feet. Latinas are also expected to know how to cook and clean, but anyone can be good at cooking or cleaning. I am a Latina, but I do not have
perfect beige skin with perfect long black hair. I don't have those Latina curves everyone says Latinas have. Most people believe Latinas aren't as
bright as other races, but that is not true. I do get a lot of surprising answers once I tell them I am 16 and in college. I don't understand why they get
surprised that I go to college. I don't know why they believe Hispanics aren't as bright as other races. Everyone learns and adapts

Diversity Within The Fresno Pacific University
Introduction
Fresno Pacific University has undertaken the daunting task to develop a cohesive strategy in creating diversity within the Fresno Pacific University
System. While the above is good, what about diversity within the university's board of trustees, board members, administrative team, and professors?
Has the university encouraged members of the minority race groups, ideology and religious beliefs to apply and have the same employment
opportunities as people of the same race and religion equal to the opportunities of the majority demographic group of university employees? Diversity
is desirable yet the sustainable and successful obtainment is difficult and problematic. The university further states, "Fresno Pacific ... Show more

Data serves as a tangible evidence source of a lack of diversity. "In a community that is 59% Hispanic, the U.S. Department of Education, National
Center for Education Statistics (2015), report reveals over 82% of the faculty and staff at FPU are white. The gap in the number of diverse faculty,
inadequate faculty engagement, and a disjointed approach to diversity across the school are all contributing factors to the current issue of diversity"
(Cochran, 2015).
Although it appears Fresno Pacific University wants a diverse organization, but, as now formed, they fall short of measurable diversity. One author
states that diversity equals representation, its being invited to the party. It is imperative that inclusion is also discussed when talking about diversity.
Once you get invited to the party everyone would like to be asked to dance. Opening a discussion of diversity without having members of the
disenfranchised demographic group seems less than thorough or effective.

Texas Is The Second Largest State Essay
The United States as a nation has its share of population increases and Texas is no stranger to such growth. Being the second largest state, it boasts
over 268 thousand square miles of land and according to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, the population of Texas was at 25.1 million people with the
estimated total population around 27.5 million for 2015 which is an increase of over 2.4 million people just in Texas alone. Out of 25.1 million Texans,
37.6 percent noted themselves to be of the Hispanic or Latino race (Data Access). In 1970, the U.S. Census asked only 5 percent of the population if
they were of Hispanic or Latino decent or origin, and on the 1980 census, 100 percent of the population was asked (Gauthier) and it became that the
population of immigrants in this category have been expanding. Texas has gone from three million inhabitants in 1900 to over 18 million in almost one
hundred years and though the trend has slowed slightly, Texas is still ranked as the fastest growing state in the U.S. The Lone Star State 's immigration
population and high birthrates of its diverse citizenry have transformed the demographics of the 28th U.S. state and because of this, specifically the
Hispanic immigration, future politics must be addressed and changed.
In 1845 after Texas statehood was granted, and Americans were migrating westward, this new land opened up opportunities not only for migrants from
the eastern U.S who went in search of economic opportunity such as land

Gladys reports that her husband pays all the bills and the only money she receives is a small weekly allowance for food and supplies for her and the
girls.
Case Analysis:
Client Strengths:
Gladys's strengths are her need to protect her daughters, willingness to seek help, and speaking the truth. She has displayed this strength by seeking
help and discussing her personal situation. Gladys knows what her husband is capable of and needs to protect her children.
Ethical Considerations:
Gladys has relayed her concern for the well being of her daughters, but has also said her husband's violent tendencies have increased and are directed at
her at the present time.
Domestic violence is against the law, the authorities need to be informed.
Cultural Considerations:
Gladys and her family are Vietnamese, their culture is very different from American culture. The man is the head of the home and controls everything
using violence as deemed fit. Women are taught as children to obey the man.
HSP: What brings you in today?
Gladys: My husband is violent and out of control. I fear for my daughters lives.
HSP: Has your husband hurt your children?
Gladys: Not yet. He usually hurts me.
HSP: What do you do when he hurts you?
Gladys: I cry.

The Effects Of Violence On Hispanic Women Essay
The topic that will be analyzed in this literature review is relationship violence in Hispanics. Specifically, it will be physical and sexual abuse in
intimate partners. It is mentioned that Hispanic women are less likely to report or use services available to anybody. The services that are available
to them are healthcare and housing. As well as, therapy of any type. Also, Hispanic women are less likely to report abuse (Cho 2012). The reasons for
not reporting abuse can vary depending on the legal status or living situation of the person being abused. Some of the reasons can be due to fear,
cultural, and language barriers (Chiara, Cuevas, Zadnik 2015). Aside from not reporting abuse there are consequences that come from abuse. There are
different effects that women go through depending on the severity of the situation or abuse.
In the literature review the main focus will be on the causes of the violence or abuse as well as the consequences that the victims go through. Among
Hispanic women, there are women who are least likely to seek help or treatment after they have suffered abuse (Cho 2012).
Some reasons for not seeking for help is due to immigrant status and cultural barriers. Also, there will be a focus on how there is a difference
between Hispanic women who have legal status from women who do not have legal status. There could be different reasons for the causes of the
abuse (Cunradi 2009; Chiara, Cuevas, Zadnik 2015).

Developmental Trajectory And Impact On Hispanic Women
Developmental trajectory and impact Hispanic women who are able to escape their perpetrator may be faced with barriers that impact their ability to
rise above a lower socioeconomic status. Community resources may provide some aid but are not suffice to sustain a family with a single parent.
Hispanic women who are entrapped in an abusive relationship may feel financially obligated to remain with their perpetrator. Some barriers identified
by Shah and Shah (2010) include low educational attainment and unemployment post pregnancy. Physical problems women are exposed to as a result of
domestic violence include increased instances of gynecological problems, sexually transmitted infections, and urinary tract infections. Migratory status
and acculturation have been studied among researchers to explore how these aspects may act as risk and protective factors to Hispanic women who
are victims of domestic violence. Caetano, Ramisetty–Mikler, Caetano Vaeth, & Harris (2007) found that both acculturation and stress related to
acculturation are congruent with the potential to fall victim to domestic violence. Additionally, substance abuse, depression, suicidal ideation, family
conflict is associated with those who experience stress in relation to acculturation. For many children who are raised in Hispanic households that also
witness domestic violence, there are both short term and long term impacts that lead to behavior problems generally seen throughout adolescence. In

The Social Interaction Of Alcohol Essay
Bars often provide one of the most open and accepting social atmospheres where people go to hang out with friends, meet new people, watch
sporting events, go on a date, read a book, eat a meal, or sometimes just to get drunk. Drinking often causes people to loosen up and engage in
conversation or reveal personal information that they probably wouldn't in any other environment. The influence of alcohol puts a person in a
vulnerable situation, so bar patrons typically want to drink in a place they feel is accepting and protective. Diversity among, and the social interaction
between the clientele varies depending upon the type of bar. In my research, I have observed the level of diversity and the nuances of social
interaction in two distinct types of bars. The Storehouse is a centrally–located bar in Manhattan, falling under the category of a cosmopolitan space.
Conversely, Old Stanley's can be classified as a neighborhood bar, acting as a more ethnocentric zone, frequented mostly by younger whites who have
recently populated the gentrifying neighborhood of Bushwick in the borough of Brooklyn. While both bars share a general sense of security and
goodwill among its customers, the clientele and the ways they interact vary greatly between the two bars. Many similarities exist between the two bars,
but their distinct localities play a major role in defining the interpersonal relations that take place within. The Storehouse is a bar located in Chelsea.

The Myth Of The Latin Woman By Judith Ortiz Cofer
Inequalities within minorities is not limited to economic unfairness but also social inequity. The second story that shows how inequality within
minorities is "The Myth of the Latin Woman" by Judith Ortiz Cofer. "The Myth of the Latin Woman" is an essay based on the real life experiences of
Judith Ortiz Cofer. The story talks about the racist inequalities she has went through as a women of Hispanic descent. "a young man, obviously fresh
from a pub, spotted me and as if struck by inspiration went down on his knees in the aisle. With both hands over his hearts he broke into an an Irish
tenor's rendition of Maria from West Side Story". The author retells one of her experiences from earing graduate credits one summer and she is met
by someone whom ignorantly makes racists remark simply because she is Latina. Furthermore in the story Cofer mentions how people gave the man
a round of applause. "amused fellow passengers gave his voice the round of gentle applause" (Page 61). This shows that it is acceptable to generalize an
ethnic group into a character from West Side Story. In addition to the unfair generalization, Cofer is confronted unfair expectations. I thought you
Latin girls were supposed to mature early". This is unfair assumption made to Cofer. She is treated like a vegetable rather than a girl who traditionally
grows into womanhood. This also generalizes Latin women to be matured at a young age. Which is incorrect just because Latinas fall into a small

Galarza interacts with Don Catarino, Gustavo, Jose, his mother, and his aunt in an enormously respectful way that was considered widely acceptable
at the time. However, in modern times, this level of respect seems to be rarely visible in most parts of our society. Personally, Ibelieve this moral's
inclusion in the book is vital because it demonstrates to youth and adolescent readers the proper way that adults should be treated. While the book does
an excellent job of showing the determination and labor of the men of
Hispanic households, it particularly does well in showcasing the immense difficulty that women of the time period were faced with. For example,
Ernesto's mother does not have his father to assist in raising him, therefore, she lives with her sister and his husband as a result. This shows the
mother's priorities are aligned because rather than be ashamed of having to seek refuge with a family member, she simply puts her son's comfort
and life above all and swallows her pride. Furthermore, as a woman of the household she helps create multiple meals every day for the entire family.
Unfortunately for her, however, women were expected to eat last and as a result, she would have to wait patiently to eat the meal she cooked
regardless of how hungry she was. His mother also shows qualities of a

Essay on Stereotypes of Hispanic Women in Cinema
The Latina women, even throughout the era resistance cinema, have not been able to make much progress in overcoming the degrading stereotypes
that Hollywood has created for them. Despite the many advances that minorities have made in the cinema in recent years, Latina actresses still take on
the roles of the "dark skinned lady" and other such stereotypes with strong sexual connotations. It is often debatable whether or not the role of the
Latina has undergone dramatic changes since the days of Dolores Del Rio and Carmen Miranda dancing with the fruit baskets on top of their heads.
However, in recent years there has been an emphasis by various Latinas in the film industry to combat such stereotypical roles and redefine themselves

This character began to appear in the 1930's, at the same time that an audio component was introduced into cinema. The audience was not however
interested in the voice of the vamp but rather for her appearance and sex appeal. She was often depicted as exotic and sensual. As Tara Osorio writes,
"In early cinema, Hollywood represented Latinas as ignorant, and valued their striking appearance and figure rather than their intelligence, character,
and personalities." (Tara Osorio) With the introduction of musicals into cinema, there were many opportunities for vamp roles. There were three
particular women in early cinema who were infamous for portraying the vamp character. Carmen Miranda, Dolores Del Rio, and Lupe Velez were
typecast in such roles and were seen in the majority of films produced in these decades.
This character represented an image that was offensive and insulting to many. The character did not have many diverse elements and was a rather
one–dimensional figure. It was even more damaging when you take into account that the same role was repeated, often by the same actress in a
myriad of films. As one actress Rita Moreno describes after she had played a similar spitfire character fourteen times in eleven years.
"It's really demeaning after you've won the Oscar to be offered the same role over and over again. They only wanted me to drag out my

The Changing Roles Of Men And Women In Hispanic Cultures
Men and women are treated very differently in other parts of the world; especially in a Hispanic household. In many Hispanic households, females
and males are treated very differently, not only in this generation but in the previous generations. Each gender has their own role in the household, but
each role that the male or female have are very dissimilar in their own ways. The roles that these people have are unfair and they are not equal. This
situation has gotten better over the years, but it can still improve. In Hispanic cultures, women have to meet expectations. Little girls are taught that

In Hispanic households, men are treated as if they are babies, but they are expected to be tough, strong and to be able to provide for the family.
They are also the "big boss" in the household, they are the ones that make the whole rules for the family. So whatever the male says whatever goes.
Men can also bend the rules. It implies freedom for working and even for reprehensible behavior such as drinking and infidelity. A blind eye is
turned to these behaviors because men provide the financial support of a household.(Men, women, Immigrants, 2) Women and men have a
different upbringing in a Hispanic household. Men are the providers and women are the nurturers. Today these are the expectations in a Hispanic

when a mother will tell their son to wash dishes or do their laundry: because they fulfill every needs their child has. My cousin is the only girl in her

Cervical cancer is when there are malignant cells present in the cervix; it is developed in the lining of the cervix. A cervix is a narrow opening located
at the bottom of the uterus that leads into the vagina. Cervical cancer mostly affects women between the ages of 40 and 55. This cancer can be
prevented by screening for precancerous cells, and it can also be cured if it is detected at an early stage. Over the past few decades the number of
cervical cancer cases has declined dramatically due to a more widespread screening of the disease. Today, it is estimated that 10,000 new... Show more

If the Pap smear test results reveal abnormal cell changes, a physician will recommend for a women to undergo a colposcopy. A colposcopy is a
procedure where a physician washes the cervix with a diluted vinegar solution and uses a microscope–like tool known as a colposcope to have a
magnified view of the surface of the vagina and cervix. If the physician sees any abnormal areas, such as lesions on the cervix, then tissue samples
are taken for examination under a microscope. Other than the Pap smear, a pelvic exam may be performed. In a pelvic exam, the vagina, along
with adjacent organs, is examined visually and manually. A speculum, and instrument that separates tissue, is inserted into the vagina for visual
examination. After, the organs are felt with the fingers by inserting one hand in the vagina, and putting the other hand on the abdomen to feel for
any abnormalities. If invasive cervical cancer is suspected, or if the colposcopy and the Pap smear have different results, then other tests may be
conducted. One test that may be performed is a cone biopsy. In a cone biopsy, a larger, cone shaped sample of cervical tissue is taken and examined
for cancer cells. Another test that may be performed is endocervical curettage. During this procedure, the lining of the cervix is scraped and examined

Consequently, they both decided they had to drop out of school. He did not get to accomplish any of his dreams, and worst of all she didn't even get

Children Of The World

  • 1. Children of the World Children of the World– Romero Britto , 2006. Picture retrieved from www.britto.com. "Art is able to reflect the celebration of the simple and good things of life. This is the most important to me!" (Romero Britto) Renata Cabral Paper II due Wednesday, March 23d. Dr. Marley About the Artist and the Art The art of Romero Britto gathers symbiotic elements of popular culture from Pernambuco – a state in Brazil –with sophisticated graphic composition, in the presence of the hybridism of the postmodern art and the "glocalization" (global and local) culture of the Contemporary. Romero started drawing very young, copying the works of other artists he saw in books. He used to articulate compositions in a way that was simplified and naГЇve, but ... This is the message that Romero Britto wants to show in all his paintings – the celebration of a happy life. We can observe a little bit of blue on the globe that the children are holding, which represents the ocean, but also we can observe it on the children's body, with another meaning. The dark blue is the color of truth and moderation. The turquoise, found on the hair of the boy is the symbol of youth, and also the color of communication. It contains the growth quality of green with the blue quality of communication. Finally, the aqua is the color of high ideals. Brown and green are other colors found in the art. Combined, they represent wholesomeness and earthiness. They can signify growth and represent the simplicity, friendliness, dependability, renewal, and environment. The Shapes and Lines Talking about the lines, we can observe that the picture contains curves, parallel lines, and diagonal lines. Analyzing the shapes, we can find circles and organic shapes (for example, the flowers). Circles represent the eternal whole and in every culture are the form that represents the sun, the earth, the moon, and the universe. They have free movement, are warm, comforting and give a sense of sensuality and love. Their movement suggests energy and power. Their completeness suggests the

  • 3. Kim Kardashian Stereotypes There isn't one single reality television show or reality t.v. show star in particular that is stereotyped to a typical standard, though as reality television stars gain more popularity and try to build their brands, to have the perfect body is often the stereotype that all genders go through. Transsexual and transgendered celebrities have also spoke about the necessity to display the perfect body because they were born men, and have to exceed women, when speaking about beauty, just to fit in. Everyone loves to use the Kardashians as an example so why not. Kim Kardashian from Keeping Up With The Kardashians is known for her "perfect hour glass figure" with large breasts, a tiny waist, and bigger–than–average booty (and yes I said booty!). She is regarded as many for having the perfect body, and other women have felt the pressure to emulate her body in order to achieve the same vanity appeal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With her being taller and simply having a different body structure than Kim, many blogs and commentators bash her constantly because she doesn't fit their mold of the "it–girl". Other reality television show stars also find it difficult staying on top. Shows produced by VH1 and Bravo like Love and Hip–Hop, Real Housewives of Atlanta and Beverly Hills, and even Botched. Documents how women more so than men, use cosmetic surgery to enhance their body so that they fit in with the celebrity Hollywood culture. On Love and Hip–Hop, most of the cast members are of native ethnic descent (being African–American/Black, Caribbean, Latino/Hispanic). Therefore beauty is even more stigmatized, in my opinion, from the communities that these women are either from or are idolized by. Women in the Black community are known to have big butts, fuller breasts, thick thighs and lovely curves. That's a lot to live up to if you didn't get it from your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The researchers needed to contact a sample of them to interview. A Solution: "Respondents were sampled using...random digit dialing. Case Study 3 on Sampling Using Quota Sampling1 Problem: Professors with limited resources usually find it difficult to obtain adequate samples of the general adult population for their research. Instead, many study samples of college students, who are readily available, even though there is no reason to believe that samples of college students are representative of the national population of adults. (Of course, often professors are interested in the behavior of college students only, in which case, using college students is not a problem.) A Solution: "In order to reach a wide range of people, the data were collected using a purposive, quota design. Students enrolled in a research methods class...were given course credit for collecting the data for this study. These research assistants were...instructed to recruit adults (not college students) that they knew in six age and gender quotas (male and female: 18–34, 35–49, and 50 and older) to complete questionnaires. • 5. US Hispanic Women and Fertility Rates Of all the racial groups in the U.S., Hispanic women have the greatest fertility rate. The health care system in the U.S. is used less than its full capacity by Hispanic women, especially after recent migration to the U.S. Among recent immigrants, protective factors such as traditions, health values and behaviors are shown to guard and strengthen health. Safeguards to health deteriorate sharply as they acculturate to U.S. society ((Sanchez–Birkhead, 2010). Acculturation is the extent to which an individual from one non–dominant group adopts parts of the dominant group's culture (Roncancio, 2011). A research study was performed to understand the link between cultural and traditional health beliefs and its effect on health care decision making using Dr. Nancy Krieger's ecosocial framework. Dr. Krieger, professor of social epidemiology at Harvard School ofPublic Health, designed the framework to examine closely social inequalities in health and disease distribution within a population (Krieger, 2014). A narrative analysis was made from a small sample group of 20 immigrant women. Interviews were conducted in both English and Spanish. The average duration of interviews was about 1–2 hours. As part of the study, demographic data was gathered along with an acculturation scale. An average scale of 2.99 was determined whether a participant is of high or low acculturation status. • 6. Analyze The Reasons For The Causes Of Death Among Hispanic... Introduction There are many reasons for the differences in deaths among men and women of Hispanic race versus non–Hispanic. For some diseases whites have the higher rates for deaths and for other disease Hispanics carry the higher percentage. Diseases are not the only causes of deaths, suicide, addiction and accidents are also other causes of death. There are many factors that contribute to these differences and the disparities among these different races vary from income and lack of resources due to discrimination. Services vary depending on who the person is, where they live, and what they look like. A major difference in deaths among males is the percentage of death from HIV. Hispanic males are three times more likely to die from HIV than white males. A reason for this may be that Hispanics are less likely to have access to health care services and unable to receive the proper treatment, resulting in an untreated problem causing death. The CDC states that Hispanic males are more likely to contract HIV from having sexual intercourse with another man and is the primary source from contracting the disease. ( Fact Sheet HIV among Latinos, 2017).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every 7 in 10 suicides are from white males and they are mostly men who are middle aged (Suicide Statistics, 2016). A common trend sn high death rate for suicide is that the men lack higher education past high school. The largest population out of my three cities, the population is composed of 31.7 percent non– Hispanic whites and the second largest contributor to the city's total population is Non–Hispanic Blacks with 32.4 percent. Hispanic or Latinos consist of 28.9 percent of the population. I have chosen this city as an immigrant city due to the sheer numbers of Hispanic population. Another reason it was chosen as such, was because out of the 2,695,598 people there are 572,416 foreign born people and out of that total Hispanic origin people consist of 28.4 percent. This is not looking into the naturalized citizens and the non–citizen's percentages of those who are foreign born, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These new comers arrive to Chicago in the hopes they could get a better lifestyle, but fail to have the appropriate requirements to legally work causing the unemployment rates to rise. The city's hike in population also has caused a major construction of housing units, but there seems to be a substantial disconnect between the increase in homes and the decline of occupied homes. This could be contributed to the fact that perhaps that although more homes are being built the population cannot afford to occupy them. The city of Chicago may also have such a successful population (in terms of quantity) due to the grid system of the streets. It has been proven that a city with a stable and easily comprehensible grid system is more likely to succeed no example of a city we can see that had a decline is Detroit of part of its failure was due to the structuring of the city. The city of New Orleans, Louisiana has a total population of 343,829. The smallest population total out of all my three cities, the population declined by 140,845 people from 2000–2010. This is taking into account the divesting damages hurricane Katrina (2008) left behind. The Hurricane misplaced many people, homes and jobs. • 8. The Importance Of Environmental Control Environmental Control Environmental control is defined as the "ability of the person to control nature and to plan and direct factors in the environment that affect them" (Giger and Davidhizar 2002). Some cultures believe they control nature to meet their needs. Others believe more in external and control and instead believe nature dominates the individual. Culture greatly influences beliefs about environmental control. Biological Variations Diversity within a culture includes biological variations in physiological, physical, and cognitive characteristics. For example, there is evidence suggesting different races metabolize drugs differently (Giger and Davidhizar 2002). Another difference is the differences between racial groups and susceptibility to disease. Hispanic Culture Communication Most Hispanic immigrants speak English fluently, however there are still many that speak mostly, if not all, Spanish (CDC 2011). Hispanics view verbal communication as courteous and respectful. However, in nonverbal communication maintaining eye contact may be interpreted as a challenge to some Hispanic cultures. Overall, Hispanic social norms emphasize the importance of communication both verbal and nonverbal in relationships (CDC 2011). In Hispanic culture, developing a personal relationship is extremely important (Galanti 2008). • 9. Legal And Social Justice For Hispanics And Women Legal and Social Justice for Latinos and Women America is most known for its diversity, with immigrants from almost everywhere on Earth. The American Dream has lured many minorities to the land of the free and home of the brave, in search of opportunity. Though the U.S. is known for its "American Dream," America does not have equal opportunity for all of its people. Women and Latinos, specifically, have been denied social and legal equality, with both movements starting in the 1960`s. Latinos had the Chicano movement while women had the second wave of a feminist movement, with similarities and differences in their goals, means, and results. Although Latinos focused on reforming education and work conditions and women wanted to reform their image in society, both educated the public through organizations and used protests to gain limited success of better job opportunity though are still viewed as inferior to white men. The Chicano movement and the Feminist movement wanted to attack society 's unequal and biased perception of women and Latinos in the 1960`s. Women were suppose to marry young then stay home and take care of the children while Latinos were perceived as inferior for being minorities. In schools there was no bilingual education and Latinos couldn 't speak Spanish. Most schools hardly taught about the history of Latinos which was also problematic because Americans did not view Latinos as Americans. • 10. Esperanza's Identity Esperanza's gradual establishment of her identity as an independent woman in The House On Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, is illuminated as she encounters multiple hardships that relate to the unfair expectations put on Hispanics and the mistreatment of women. For example, in the vignettes "Cathy Queen of Cats" and "A Smart Cookie", Esperanza is faced with two occurrences in which the racist expectations of Hispanics are revealed. Specifically, in "Cathy Queen of Cats", Esperanza's first friend Cathy, says that she will be moving away in the next week. Cathy states "...the neighborhood is getting bad."(Cisneros 13). In this statement, Cathy is illuminating that she will be moving away because more and more Hispanics(like Esperanza) are moving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. African American And Hispanic Women facilities (Reichert et al., 2007). This particular argument may stem from the lack of safe, but free, areas to exercise; many low–income neighborhoods do not have safe sidewalks, parks, or even free recreation centers to participate even if the desire was there. A prevalent argument that both African American and Hispanic women use as to their inability to obtain a healthy exercise routine is that the additional money needed to provide for childcare while exercising does not suffice a cost to benefit (Reichert et al., 2007). A study done in regards to the Hispanic population found that in the case of parents, money would be spent on a child's participation in sports or exercise before an adult (Steenhuis, Nooy, Moes, & Schuit, 2009). That... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One particular barrier that has been found to have an indirect effect on physical activity is self–efficacy and self–motivation. Self–efficacy allows humans to overcome barriers such as feeling tired to exercise; because of social norms, it is harder for females to have high self–efficacy and in turn, harder to overcome barriers to motivation (Louw, Van Biljon, & Mugandani, 2012). Age can most certainly stand in the way of ones motivation; younger groups of people cite that not having a workout partner keeps them exercising while the senior groups barrier was simply the lack of knowledge about how their bodies respond to certain exercises, as well as the health issues that come with growing older (Louw et al., 2012). Additionally, older adults are rarely met with successful stories of aging by the media, which establishes a stigma that the ability to retain health throughout ones lifespan is non–existent, and therefore the motivation to try is wasted (Louw et al., 2012). Race plays a part in the motivation of exercise; majority races are more likely to exercise for weight and stress management, as well a revitalization and enjoyment, while minority races tend to exercise to avoid health issues in the future or circumvent behavioral problems (Egli, land, Melton, & Czech, 2011). • 12. Bien Pretty Analysis Woman Hollering Creek, by Sandra Cisneros gives a vivid and imaginative view into the Hispanic culture. Cisneros expertly weaves ideas and truths of the world, from her insight on economics, religion, and gender. For example, she depicts the lives of mistresses and how their lives affected themselves and others. Cisneros's conclusion about these women is definitely negative in tone she pities the women in these positions and wishes to reach out to them. Proof of this concept comes from Cisneros's most notable contribution to the literary and social worlds comes in the form of one of her short stories, "Bien Pretty", which delves into the sad realty and hope–filled possibilities for women. Analyzing these facets of Cisneros work better informs and challenges readers to rise above the stereotypes of society. To begin, throughout Cisneros's work Hispanicwoman have been depicted as mistresses to men. In other words, these women because of the pressures and stereotypes of the culture are somewhat forced into this role of being completely helpless to men. In "Bien Pretty" this idea is no exception, the main protagonist Lupe doesn't so much embody a mistress rather she is very dependent on the love and care of a man. Hispanic women are brought up to marry and have children; Lupe has been trained to some extent to want to be taken care of. This reality of dependency goes further when Lupe tells readers of love in Spanish. She longs for the sweet Spanish utterances of a man in her ear and his warm embrace, "to make love in Spanish in a manner as intricate and devout as la Alhambra. To have a lover sigh mi vida, mi preciosa, mi Chiquita, and whisper things in that language crooned to babies, that language muttered by grandmothers, those words that smelled like your house, like flour tortillas, and the inside of your daddy's hat, like everyone talking in the kitchen at the same time, or sleeping with the windows open." In this manner, whenever Lupe hears these words from men she cant helps but fall for them. However, this idea of what loves is really, just isn't. Cisneros's shows readers how these woman's almost deceive themselves into a extremely dependent desire for companionship. Although hope is not lost, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Maria, The Only Latina, And The Person Of Color Introduction In this scenario, Maria, who is of Latino ancestry made a complaint about being passed over for a promotion because she is a Latina; she was born in America, and is a second generation. Maria holds a graduate degree, and has been with this company for 10 years, but has been in her position for seven years. The person who got the promotion was Alex, who is an Anglo, and has a graduate degree. However, he has less time in the company or in this position, and had better evaluations than Maria. Maria is the only Latina, and the only person of color; she believes that the reason her evaluations were lower, were because of bias towards white males, and because of the fear of clients not being able to understand her accent. Maria claimed that her company was being discriminatory towards her. The company says that she is a good employee, but that she is loud and aggressive when talking with her follower workers and superiors. The company also states that Maria is tardy a lot, and that she always cites her family as the reason to this problem. According to the company, Maria's rapid speaking and accent would make it hard for her to communicate with clients. From this scenario, it brings up the issue of how women are still seen as being inferior to men when it comes to the business setting (Harvey & Allard, 2012). Parents instill a "machismo" and familism ideology into the upbringing of these women (Fuchsel, 2012). "Machismo" is a term to describe what is acceptable and expected of men (Fuschel,2012). Familism is, "the subordination of the personal interests and prerogatives of an individual to the values and demands of the family" (dictionary.com). An example of "machismo" is that it is not seen as a problem for men to be unfaithful (Fuschel, 2012). Women would continue to stay with the men, because of the strong sense of familism and not wanting to break the family apart (Fuschel,2012). Also, the strong tie to family makes it difficult to express the troubles in a marriage, because family may be unwilling to help (Fuschel,2012). Machismo and familism affect Hispanic women in their day–to–day lives and how they approach marriages and relationships (Fuschell,2012). Domestic violence is an issue that has not been given much attention in the Hispanic culture as it is seen as a norm. Domestic violence is defined "as a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner" (justice.gov). Hispanics are affected more than the non–Hispanic populations when it comes to the consequences domestic violence brings and also the constant occurrence of domestic violence in the Hispanic ... • 15. Puerto Rican Culture The term Hispanic refers to people who are capable of speaking and comprehending the Spanish language, and whose ancestry identifies with the Hispanic culture. The three main Hispanic groups in the United States are Cubans, Mexicans, and Puerto Ricans. Puerto Ricans are people who identify themselves as Hispanics of Puerto Rican origin, meaning they were either born in Puerto Rico, or have family ancestry that traces back to Puerto Rico. According to Lopez & Patten (2015), in 2013, Puerto Ricans were the second–largest Hispanic origin population living in the United States, accounting for 9.5%. This population continues to grow. In fact, between 1980 and 2013, the Puerto Rican population in the United States had increased by 56% (Lopez & Patten, 2015). Puerto Rican culture is unique, and quite complex. To gain knowledge and a better understanding of the Puerto Rican culture, I attended the Puerto Rican Festival held in Milwaukee, and conducted an interview with Melinda Nieves, a Puerto Rican woman living in Appleton. People carried ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Serve Me: The Role Of Women In The Hispanic Family "Serve me." Growing up, those two words have always left my stomach in knots and caused my eyebrows to come together in confusion. At the tender age of 8, family parties were meant to be fun and enjoyable, but whenever I heard an uncle or grandfather say those two words I was left in a state of discomfort without really knowing why. "Serve me." In any Hispanic family, a few certain core values and traditions are kept up from generation to generation. A few of these values include being hospitable and showing respect, but there was always one value that was never explicitly stated that I could never really wrap my head around. That value was that women are to dedicate themselves to their husbands and assure that their husband is happy. Ever since that night, I set my mind on proving to my family that women are more than homemakers and that's what pushed me to apply for University High School when I was 13. I chose to apply and attend the school because I knew the college preparatory school would only push me to make the most out of my education. Hispanic Women In Othello In Shakespeare's tragedy Othello, the title character, is a 16th century Moorish general of the Venetian army who, because of the cultural and historical background of the play's setting, and the original intended audience, is portrayed as both well–respected for his military prowess and belittle for his race. This later causes Othello to limit himself to the majority of things that come his way, his relationship with Desdemona, which creates conflict. Similarly, Hispanic women are treasured but they are despairing because they increase the Hispanic population causing chaos between society. To illustrate, some the students that are ADHD diagnosed have implemented a mindset that if they get through the last class of the day they are free from doing any assignments outside of the classroom. They lead away from the norms of the classroom. The norms were that would participate during the whole class period, but not one of these students are able to make it through the whole class period. Another example, there is a couple of students to leave the classroom under my supervision to release energy in the gym, but after a couple of days of observing their behavior they start to anticipate that they will go for a run in the gym, so they will not have to complete their assignment. Furthermore, I have made many adjustments to my guidelines to allow the students to go for a brain break and release energy. It has become more of an award to the students that have ADHD than an escape from doing an assignment. There are numerous days the students not allowed to go to release energy because of their actions during class. One time, I discussed with one of the students that he may be allowed to release energy, but not until he completes the notes portion of the class period. When I started as an actor, because of the accent and my body and my personality, it was not what the stereotype of the Latina woman in Hollywood is, so they didn't know where to put me. The blond hair wasn't matching. The moment I put my hair dark, it was better for my work" (Vergara). The media tends to portray stereotypes of many different people without warnings. So, when people watch TV or listen to the radio all they get are the generalizations of these different people. One group that has been highly stereotyped and somewhat portrayed in the media are Hispanic women. How the media portrays Hispanic women is based on both gender and racial stereotypes (Correa, 2010). This portrayal of Hispanic women impacts people in many ways. Sofia Vergara's quote that was stated above is an example of the impact these stereotypes caused; it was hard for Sofia Vergara to get a job because she didn't look like the stereotypical Hispanic woman and the media continues to portray Hispanic women as such. One of the largest influences on the roles Hispanic women are expected to play is the media's portrayal of them. The media portrays Hispanic women by generalizations of how they look, how they act, and how they identify their values. Before getting into how the media portrays Hispanic women, there must be a clear outlook on the fact that there is very little representation of Hispanics in the US media. America is composed of a variety of people who all have different beliefs and traditions, as well as their own unique set of beliefs regarding their healthcare practices. One such group is the Hispanic Americans who have their own very diverse cultural group. As individuals, they are just like anybody else in any other culture. However, it is worthwhile for a nurse caring for someone from this culture to know what their distinct cultural beliefs are. For example, the eldest male of the family is the one who makes healthcare related decisions for the family members and the entire family needs to be included in all aspects of the patients care (Giger & Davidhizar, 1999). Nurses should conscience of this and try to include family whenever possible. Time Hispanics concept of time is very different from that of Americans. According to Giger and Davidhizar (1999), Hispanics are present–time oriented, which means that they place more importance on the present time than on the future. Therefore, planning care for these patients can pose great difficulty for the nurse (Giger & Davidhizar, 1999). Nurses need to take the time to educate patients on why it is importance to follow medical treatment plans, for instance why it's important to take a particular medication on time. Environmental Control Hispanics believe in external locus of control, which means that they are fatalist and believe that they are under the control of fate (Giger & Davidhizar, 1999). Due to this believe, they may be more reluctant to comply with healthcare treatment plans and may rely more on folk medicine, which involves diet, rest, herbs, prayer, and supernatural rituals (Giger & Davidhizar, 1999). • 21. The Physical Portrayals Of Hispanic Women In The Media The physical portrayal of Hispanic women in the media has a large influence on the Hispanic women and girls that view these portrayals. The media's physical portrayal of Hispanic women is that they are voluptuous, dark–haired, tanned skin, and petite. There are many films, TV shows, and any other media outlets that portray Hispanic women as such. Examples of these portrayals are "Modern Family," "Maid in Manhattan," and "Girl in Progress." In each of these movies or shows, the main character appears as the stereotypical Hispanic woman. This is what many Hispanic women and girls believe that the world sees them as. They also believe that this is how they should look. This especially affects adolescent girls that identify as Hispanic. "media use may play a role in the body image development of Latina adolescents" (Schooler, 2008, p. 134). Most of the time when watching television, Latinas see a white woman and their beauty standards. The difference between white women in the media as opposed to Latin women is that there is a greater variety of how white women in the U.S. look. When a Latina finally sees someone who is Latina, they expect to see themselves, instead, they see Eva Mendes, long wavy hair, curvy, and petite. When young Latin women see this, they expect themselves to be the same way. If they don't look like that, it can result in a spoiled body image of themselves. "Latina women in this sample tended to hold the lowest perceptions of their bodies, the highest awareness of Consumerism as a factor in the body/beauty standard, and scored high in racial identification" (Poran, 2002, p. 79) Latin women understand who they are and when someone is of the same background. Many are also self–conscious about their bodies, and that is likely due to the fact that not only are actresses on TV shows thin and curvy, but many commercials are about the newest way to lose weight rapidly, or what to buy to get curves. All women of any race have issues with body Image, but as a Latina, the media plays a big role in how Latinas form their body image. According to the media's portrayal of Latin women, there are two ways Latin women act. The first way is passive, pure, and dependent on men; the second way is wild, ... Specifically, it will be physical and sexual abuse in intimate partners. It is mentioned that Hispanic women are less likely to report or use services available to anybody. The services that are available to them are healthcare and housing. As well as, therapy of any type. Also, Hispanic women are less likely to report abuse (Cho 2012). The reasons for not reporting abuse can vary depending on the legal status or living situation of the person being abused. Some of the reasons can be due to fear, cultural, and language barriers (Chiara, Cuevas, Zadnik 2015). Aside from not reporting abuse there are consequences that come from abuse. There are different effects that women go through depending on the severity of the situation or abuse. In the literature review the main focus will be on the causes of the violence or abuse as well as the consequences that the victims go through. Among Hispanic women, there are women who are least likely to seek help or treatment after they have suffered abuse (Cho 2012). Some reasons for not seeking for help is due to immigrant status and cultural barriers. Drinking often causes people to loosen up and engage in conversation or reveal personal information that they probably wouldn't in any other environment. The influence of alcohol puts a person in a vulnerable situation, so bar patrons typically want to drink in a place they feel is accepting and protective. Diversity among, and the social interaction between the clientele varies depending upon the type of bar. In my research, I have observed the level of diversity and the nuances of social interaction in two distinct types of bars. This shows that it is acceptable to generalize an ethnic group into a character from West Side Story. In addition to the unfair generalization, Cofer is confronted unfair expectations. I thought you Latin girls were supposed to mature early". This is unfair assumption made to Cofer. She is treated like a vegetable rather than a girl who traditionally grows into womanhood. This also generalizes Latin women to be matured at a young age. Which is incorrect just because Latinas fall into a small category in society ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Song of the Hummingbird Jon Ryan Professor Orona–Cordova Chicano Studies 115 17 September 2012 Expository Essay #1 Throughout the course of his novel Barrio Boy, Ernesto Galarza does a superb job of capturing the many intricacies and emotions that were associated with his culture during the time period in which he lived. Galarza's story encompasses his own personal experiences as well the condition of his surrounding environments and neighbors. Galarza also goes in depth about the terrain and location of the various cities he traveled to through the duration of his childhood. Although this story is designed to portray the early life of Ernesto Galarza, it also does a tremendous job of capturing the essence of Hispanic culture during his ... Galarza interacts with Don Catarino, Gustavo, Jose, his mother, and his aunt in an enormously respectful way that was considered widely acceptable at the time. However, in modern times, this level of respect seems to be rarely visible in most parts of our society. Personally, Ibelieve this moral's inclusion in the book is vital because it demonstrates to youth and adolescent readers the proper way that adults should be treated. While the book does an excellent job of showing the determination and labor of the men of Hispanic households, it particularly does well in showcasing the immense difficulty that women of the time period were faced with. For example, Ernesto's mother does not have his father to assist in raising him, therefore, she lives with her sister and his husband as a result. This shows the mother's priorities are aligned because rather than be ashamed of having to seek refuge with a family member, she simply puts her son's comfort and life above all and swallows her pride. Furthermore, as a woman of the household she helps create multiple meals every day for the entire family. Unfortunately for her, however, women were expected to eat last and as a result, she would have to wait patiently to eat the meal she cooked regardless of how hungry she was. His mother also shows qualities of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Essay on Stereotypes of Hispanic Women in Cinema The Latina women, even throughout the era resistance cinema, have not been able to make much progress in overcoming the degrading stereotypes that Hollywood has created for them. Despite the many advances that minorities have made in the cinema in recent years, Latina actresses still take on the roles of the "dark skinned lady" and other such stereotypes with strong sexual connotations. It is often debatable whether or not the role of the Latina has undergone dramatic changes since the days of Dolores Del Rio and Carmen Miranda dancing with the fruit baskets on top of their heads. However, in recent years there has been an emphasis by various Latinas in the film industry to combat such stereotypical roles and redefine themselves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This character began to appear in the 1930's, at the same time that an audio component was introduced into cinema. The audience was not however interested in the voice of the vamp but rather for her appearance and sex appeal. She was often depicted as exotic and sensual. As Tara Osorio writes, "In early cinema, Hollywood represented Latinas as ignorant, and valued their striking appearance and figure rather than their intelligence, character, and personalities." (Tara Osorio) With the introduction of musicals into cinema, there were many opportunities for vamp roles. There were three particular women in early cinema who were infamous for portraying the vamp character. Carmen Miranda, Dolores Del Rio, and Lupe Velez were typecast in such roles and were seen in the majority of films produced in these decades. This character represented an image that was offensive and insulting to many. The character did not have many diverse elements and was a rather one–dimensional figure. It was even more damaging when you take into account that the same role was repeated, often by the same actress in a myriad of films. As one actress Rita Moreno describes after she had played a similar spitfire character fourteen times in eleven years. "It's really demeaning after you've won the Oscar to be offered the same role over and over again. They only wanted me to drag out my accent–and–dance show over and over again." (pg.174, Hadley–Garcia) The filmmakers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Changing Roles Of Men And Women In Hispanic Cultures Men and women are treated very differently in other parts of the world; especially in a Hispanic household. In many Hispanic households, females and males are treated very differently, not only in this generation but in the previous generations. Each gender has their own role in the household, but each role that the male or female have are very dissimilar in their own ways. The roles that these people have are unfair and they are not equal. This situation has gotten better over the years, but it can still improve. In Hispanic cultures, women have to meet expectations. Little girls are taught that they need to find a husband to take care of them. From a young age, they are taught by their mothers to cook, clean and care for their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A blind eye is turned to these behaviors because men provide the financial support of a household.(Men, women, Immigrants, 2) Women and men have a different upbringing in a Hispanic household. Men are the providers and women are the nurturers. Today these are the expectations in a Hispanic family. Many young boys in households are cared for by their mothers more than the girls. It is like boys are the golden children. It is very rare when a mother will tell their son to wash dishes or do their laundry: because they fulfill every needs their child has. My cousin is the only girl in her family and she has two other brothers. When I asked her how it was living with two brothers, she responded it really sucks, we get treated very differently. She added that. Whenever she is busy doing homework and her brothers are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cervical Cancer in Hispanic or Latina Women Essays CERVICAL CANCER Cervical Cancer and Hispanic/Latina Women Melissa Gavidia ITRODUCTION: Cervical cancer is when there are malignant cells present in the cervix; it is developed in the lining of the cervix. A cervix is a narrow opening located at the bottom of the uterus that leads into the vagina. Cervical cancer mostly affects women between the ages of 40 and 55. This cancer can be prevented by screening for precancerous cells, and it can also be cured if it is detected at an early stage. Over the past few decades the number of cervical cancer cases has declined dramatically due to a more widespread screening of the disease. Today, it is estimated that 10,000 new... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the Pap smear test results reveal abnormal cell changes, a physician will recommend for a women to undergo a colposcopy. A colposcopy is a procedure where a physician washes the cervix with a diluted vinegar solution and uses a microscope–like tool known as a colposcope to have a magnified view of the surface of the vagina and cervix. If the physician sees any abnormal areas, such as lesions on the cervix, then tissue samples are taken for examination under a microscope. Other than the Pap smear, a pelvic exam may be performed. In a pelvic exam, the vagina, along with adjacent organs, is examined visually and manually. A speculum, and instrument that separates tissue, is inserted into the vagina for visual examination. After, the organs are felt with the fingers by inserting one hand in the vagina, and putting the other hand on the abdomen to feel for any abnormalities. If invasive cervical cancer is suspected, or if the colposcopy and the Pap smear have different results, then other tests may be conducted. One test that may be performed is a cone biopsy. In a cone biopsy, a larger, cone shaped sample of cervical tissue is taken and examined for cancer cells. Another test that may be performed is endocervical curettage. During this procedure, the lining of the cervix is scraped and examined for cancer cells. Once a diagnosis of cervical cancer is made, then the

The reason for his statement was because I was a Hispanic young woman with above average grades, and my involvement in extracurricular activities. Unfortunately, when you evaluate Hispanic women most likely they did not go to college, or even graduate high school. There may be many factors that determine their circumstance. I have the most adorable little nephew ever. He is just like his father; my brother. Several years ago, my brother was always determined to create this great future for himself. He wanted to go to college and major in music, his passion. Until, in the tenth grade he met this girl, she was an eighth grader. They began dating and it became serious. Everything fell apart when she found out she was pregnant. Consequently, they both decided they had to drop out of school. He did not get to accomplish any of his dreams, and worst of all she didn't even get to enter high school. Now, here they are five years later, struggling because two working parents without an education is not enough anymore. This has not been the only time this has happened in my family. I could name many of my cousins that have not completed their education. Even plenty of aunts and generations before have been through the same situation.
