1. CHERRY 2014-2015 BLOOD DRIVES A SUCCESS!

Givingbloodrequirescourage onthe partof the donor. If you’re nota fan of gettinga needle
stuck inyourarm or youfainteasilyatthe sightof blood,donatingismostcertainlynotyourcupof tea.
But thisdidn’tstopthe studentsof CherryHigh School,whothisyearmade up overfiftypercentof the
donorsat all three blooddrives. Several staff membersanda communitymemberortwo donated,but
the studentswere the largestcontributingsource fordonations,arise frompreviousyears.
PlanningaBloodDrive takeslotsof work,and CherryCoordinatorsAndyandBenBrunfelt
(Seniors) andPaul CerarandJake Mayry (Juniors) putinthat hard workto make three driveshappenthis
yearwithouttoomany problems. Relyingonstudenthelpseveral times,theysuccessfullyranthe drives
withoutanycomplications. Theyalsogave bloodatleastonce at some pointthroughoutthe year.
The firstBloodDrive was heldonFriday,November7th
,where a total of 36 unitsof bloodwere
collectedoverfourhours. The seconddrive washeldMonday,March 9th
where another36 unitswere
collected,bringingthe total forthe yearto 72. The council wascelebratinghavingjusthitthe annual
quota,but theyweren’tdone yet…..
In earlySpring,Memorial BloodCenters,the bloodbankthatassistswiththese drives,called
withan urgentmessage topass;theywere indesperate needof blood,andwere atanall-time low.
Upon callingCherryStudentCouncil AdvisorSheri Lee anotherdrive wassetforWednesdayMay 6th
. At
thisdrive a total of 25 unitswere collected,bringingthe annual total forthe yearto 99 and givingthe
bloodbankjusta fewmore cells. The total of livessavedthisyearforCherryis297.
Congratulationstothe BloodDrive Committee for all of yourhard workand thankyou to all who
donatedthisyear,itis muchappreciated. Blooddoessave livesforthose inneedof it.
