Charles is a 12-year-old boy who lives with about 20 other boys in an old wagon in a railway yard in Kampala, Uganda. He has been living there since his parents were killed by soldiers three years ago. He sleeps on the floor of the wagon and has some cardboard boxes and a bed sheet for bedding. In the mornings, he goes to the nearby city market to pick up and sell loose bananas, fallen fruit, and cheap soap to earn money for food and clothes. Charles hopes that one day he can have his own stall at the market and make enough money to rent a house.
