Dear Merveille,
Congratulations! We are delighted to let you know your essay “Assimilation: The Price to Pay”
has been awarded an Honorable Mention in the Writing Program Charles Moran Best Text
Contest.
As you might imagine, we received a large number of submissions representing the thoughtful
and diverse writing that students like you are producing for Basic Writing. Your essay was
certainly outstanding, and you should be proud of your accomplishments.
The Writing Program will be hosting a Celebration of Writing Awards Ceremony where you and
others will be recognized for your excellent work. The ceremony will take place on Sunday,
April 3 from 2:30-4:00pm at the Marriott Center, 11th Floor, Campus Center; refreshments will
be served. Please feel free to invite your family and friends to join you in your celebration. We
ask you to RSVP, including the number of people attending, no later than Friday, March 11,
2016; send replies to Subhalakshmi Gooptu at sgooptu@umass.edu .
We look forward to seeing you at the ceremony. Again, congratulations on your fine work.
Sincerely,
