Charles Dickens was born in 1812 in Portsmouth, England and began working in a factory at age 12 after his father was sent to prison. He went on to have a successful career as a novelist and journalist, publishing many famous works such as Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, and A Tale of Two Cities. Dickens married Catherine Hogarth and had 10 children before passing away in 1870 in London.
