Charles Babbage was an English mathematician, philosopher, inventor and mechanical engineer who originated the concept of a programmable computer. He is considered a father of computer science, inventing both the difference engine and analytical engine, early mechanical general-purpose computers that analyzed numbers and implemented basic logic.
