Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space, while non-matter does not have mass or occupy space. Matter is composed of tiny particles and can exist in different states depending on how the particles are arranged. When a copper sulfate crystal is dropped in water, the clear water turns blue as the particles of the blue crystal separate and mix in between the spaces of the water particles. Over time, a balloon will deflate because air is made up of fine particles that can diffuse through the tiny pores in the balloon's wall.
