New Zealand is an island country located in the South Pacific Ocean. It has two main islands - North Island and South Island - as well as other smaller islands. The climate is mild and temperate due to the moderating effects of mountains and surrounding ocean. New Zealand has a diverse landscape that includes volcanoes, forests, lakes, beaches and mountain ranges like the Southern Alps. The indigenous Maori people first arrived over 1000 years ago and make up around 9% of the current population.
