EntryGreetings Professor Allen & ClassIn review of Chapter 1 this course teaches the nurse
of today that the history of this profession has for all intent and purposes been the catalyst
to seven basic trends that give emphasis to the nurse’s image, our education, the
advancement of the practice our consistent involvement in war the ongoing workforce
issues, requirements for licensure, board regulations and the professions commitment to
nursing research (Judd, 2014, p. 2-5).It is of great importance for me to share and utilize the
accomplishments of our history in a way where it actually brings a different light to the
unfolding of the history of the innovators who lived and practiced in very complex times
and environments; they used their nursing experience to develop the nursing process in
caring for the sick while improving patient outcomes. I have actually considered
incorporating a review of nursing history into our bi-annual skills fair.My contribution and
responsibility to the history of nursing is to continue in providing safe patient centered care
based on nursing research, evidenced base practice for the best patient care outcomes in a
shared interprofessional collaborative healthcare environment (aacnnursing.org).Most of
us work in extremely fast paced environments and the history of nursing is not something
that is thought about. Most societies today consider the nursing profession as respectful
because of this recognition it based upon professional accountability, professional image
and a trust that has been built upon over the last 150 plus years; historically we were not
always looked at with respect however it is vital that as nurses we share this history and
our appreciation of the history and that of the trendsetters who impacted the integration of
theory, knowledge, skills, and research coincides with the practice and standards of the
profession today and the future of nursing (aacnnursing.org).ReferencesAmerican
