This digital presentation provides as overview of several MEEP methods of learning and teaching in community can generate new insights and find strategies and solutions for complex social issues such as gentrification, mass internet surveillance, toxic teams, and failing schools.
The Mapping Educational Ecosystems Project (MEEP) aims to help solve one of today’s biggest challenges — how to build learning institutions that work for people at all stages of life, from birth until natural death.
MEEP stands for the Mapping Educational Ecosystems Project. We're a community of educators who use mapping techniques to visualize our community's learning ecosystem, the people, relationships, and places that promote learning such as schools, senior centers, community organizations, hacker spaces, daycare centers, companies, etc. Our goal is to see where learning happens and use that knowledge to create smarter educational systems for all people, at every stage of life.

About MEEP:
The Mapping Educational Ecosystems Project aims to help solve one of today’s biggest challenges — how to build learning institutions that work for people at all stages of life, from birth until natural death. We are a community-initiative that promotes holistic learning and educational transformation.
About MEEP’s Community Learning Labs:
All our events are designed to welcome diverse learners and celebrate educators from our community’s educational ecosystem. Our first community learning lab, in June 2014, focused on ‘Sensing the Present,’ asking where is learning happening in our community, and where do we want and need it to happen? Our second lab, ‘Mapping Education’s Future,’ explores how people are shaping education to meet the needs of humans and our living planet while incorporating new developments in technology and neuroscience into everyday learning.

Online courses, blended courses, and even traditional large classroom-based courses are often equated with anonymity and distance, among student colleagues and between students and faculty. However, the appropriate use of social media and communication tools can foster the creation of a thriving classroom community. This, in turn, can encourage more meaningful online dialog and group problem solving.
