At one time the Phrygians were without a king. An oracle at
Telmissus (the ancient capital of Phrygia) decreed that the next
man to enter the city driving an ox-cart should become their king.
A peasant farmer named Y drove into town on an ox-cart. His
position had also been predicted earlier by an eagle landing on
his cart, a sign to him from the gods, and, on entering the city, X
was declared king. Out of gratitude, his son Midas dedicated the
ox-cart to the Phrygian god Sabazios and tied it to a post with an
intricate knot of cornel bark.
Legend also has it that when Y stopped through Phrygia during
his conquest, in order to free the ox cart, Y cut through the knot.
This story gave rise to a phrase used in the English language,
used to describe an impossible task, only solved by out of the

X-Y is a 66 year old poet from Sambalpur, Odisha. Despite
him being only educated till the third grade, he is regarded
as one of the most prominent poets of the Kosli language,
and was the forefront of the Sambalpuri - Kosli language
movement for inclusion in 8th schedule of the Constitution.
Today his poems are taught to Ph.D students, and his style
is imitated by other poets in what is termed as X-Dhara. In
2016 he was awarded the Padma Shri for his contributions.

poems and writings of X into songs. A selective collection had
already been published as English language translations under
the title Broken Piectrum. A total of 50 poems were sent to

compose and vocalize the poem chosen, record it in their own
country studios and send it back for inclusion in planned album.
Reportedly, no restrictions were put on the artists in using of
