This project brief outlines a collaboration between the UTM Faculty of Industrial Design, graduates, industry experts, and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs). The project aims to provide graduates with hands-on work experience at SMEs to solve technical problems. Graduates will be treated as employees and placed in groups to analyze and present solutions to real-life management issues. They will prepare a final analysis and presentation to be reviewed by advisors and implemented at the SME. The objectives are to familiarize graduates with business operations, apply their knowledge to real industry challenges, and develop their leadership, problem-solving, and potential entrepreneurial skills.

1. PROJECT BRIEF
A project which is jointly managed and designed to provide the
graduates of UTM Faculty of Industrial Design with the best mix of
experience, theory and practice in a realtime business environment
which is both formal and complete with hands-on practical
applications and business operations and decision making processes.
Graduates will be treated as part of the SMEs internal employee for
a specific period of time with the task of solving the company’s
technical problems.
Graduates will be expected to be placed in a group of 4 to each
selected SME.and are to understand, familiarize, review, analyse
and present real-life project management problems with the group’s
mentor made up of the Industry Experts.
At the end of their project, the team will prepare their analysis,
…….and present it to the CFA before for review prior to presenting
it to the SME for implementation.

2. OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the project are :
Familiarize graduates with real life business operations
Provide graduates with hands-on experience in the real
industry issues
Provide graduates opportunities to apply their theoretical
knowledge to practice, in a real time situation
Provide graduates the awareness the difficulties faced by
businesses and the importance of making the right decisions.
Enhancing the graduates interpersonal skills and leadership
skills in dealing with a group of people outside their university
environment.
To understand the concept of management and handling of
company’s conflicts, resources and other limitations
To understand the use of management tools for the
timeliness, cost impacts and resolutions, quality issues and
scope of projects.
To instill the habit of anticipation with regard to identifying
possible quality problems, opportunities, and their project
contingencies and project risks.
Provide the graduates to nurture their own business skills
thereby allowing the university to produce ‘technopreneurs’.

3. PROJECT DURATION
Preferably 6 months placement with a specific SME but this
is to be discussed and should be in line with the faculty’s
curriculum.
