PLACES TO VISIT IN
TURKEY
KAŞ
WSB UNIVERSITY
GENERAL INFORMATION
 The town of Kaş is on a hill running down to
the Turquoise Coast of southwestern Turkey.
The district has a typical Mediterranean
climate of hot, dry summers and mild, wet
winters, which allows the growth of oranges,
lemons and bananas. The lowland areas are
also planted with cut flowers and a variety of
fruits and vegetables. Many are grown all
year round under glass. The hillsides produce
honey and almonds, while at high altitudes
there are extensive pine forests. The weather
is drier at high altitudes. Although agriculture
is still important, tourism is the main source
of income in the district, which has many
hotels and guest houses.
WSB UNIVERSITY
THE LOCATION
Kaş located in the 168 km west of the city of Antalya
WSB UNIVERSITY
POPULATION OF KAŞ
 Kas is small – there are just over 8000 residents living in Kas town, and the whole
district (comprising 48 villages) has over 60,000 permanent residents.
WSB UNIVERSITY
HISTORY OF KAŞ
 The first traces of civilization around Kas goes back to the Stone Age. The civilization
in Kas started to sparkle especially after the Lycian Era.
 Kas was called Habessos by the Lycians and the importance of the city can be
understood from the size of the Necropoleis of Kas and Kale nearby.
 The town that remained on the slopes of the hills over modern Kas today was called
Phellus during the Hellenistic times which is between the 3rd and the 1st Century
BCE.
 The city was called Antiphellos during the Roman times and suffered from Arabian
invasions during the attempts of the Arabian navy trying to reach Constantinopolis.
 Turkish rules started in the 12th Century in Kas and Christian Greeks were the
majority until the population exchange of the Republic of Turkey and Greece in 1923.
WSB UNIVERSITY
INDUSTRY IN KAŞ
 The tourism industry discovered Kas in the late 80s and
since then, Kas is a popular spot for all types of tourists
 The tourist industry is centered on the pleasant town of Kaş,
but many other coastal towns and villages in the district
have plenty of accommodation for visitors including Kalkan
and Gelemiş.
 The district can be reached from both Antalya and Dalaman
airports.

Kayak or Boat around the Kekova
Ruins
The best way to explore is by kayak because it allows you to get
the closest look of the ruins below the sea surface. Several
operators in Kaş offer kayaking tours to the ruins. Alternatively,
there are also plenty of boat cruise tours (by yacht or smaller boat)
that head to Kekova
WSB UNIVERSITY
Relax on the Nearby Beaches
 Kas is all about outdoor activities but if you want a simple day of sun and
sea there are so many beaches in Kaş
 There are famous beaches in Kaş like Kaputaş, Hidayet(Blanca) Bay and
Big Pebble Beach these are just a few options you can go
Big Pebble Beach Hidayet Bay Kaputaş Beach
WSB UNIVERSITY
SCUBA DIVING IN KAŞ
 Kas is considered one of the top 50 dive sites in the world.
 The reasons for this are that it contains many and varied
diving possibilities in a small area, the fact that it’s close to
land and the fact that the water is as colorful viewed from
above the surface as it is below the surface.
WSB UNIVERSITY
SEE SAKLIKENT CANYON
 Saklikent Canyon is a good alternative to escape from the heat of Kas
during the summer with its cool waters.
 The canyon runs 18 kilometers and reaches a height of 200 meters and
has narrow passages. The Esen River flows through the canyon and gives
life to a huge pine forest
WSB UNIVERSTIY
WALK THE LYCHIAN WAY
 Kill three birds with one stone on the Lycian Way: Trekking, mysterious
ruins and fantastic views abound on this historically significant and famous
long-distance trail in southern Turkey.
 The massive 535-km route starts in Fethiye and crosses through to
Antalya, hugging the coast of what was known as Ancient Lycia .
 If you’re looking for adventure in Kas, Antalya, the Lycian Way is a
historically significant trail with glorious views.
WSB UNIVERSITY
NIGHT LIFE
 Kas has a nightlife scene that stands out from other resort towns lining the
Turkish Riviera.
 Instead of enormous dance clubs, the town is filled with vibrant bars
boasting their own unique atmosphere. Parties carry on late into the night
and numerous places host live music performances to entertain guests.
During the season, you’re likely to find a concert every night of the week.
WSB UNIVERSITY
The Love of Two Giants
 This ancient port of Phellus, known as Kas today, is much more than just a
holiday destination in the Turquoise Coast of southwest Turkey.
 An ancient legend has it that there were two giants madly in love with
each other living in two neighboring islands, Phellus and Megisti(known
as Kastellorizo today), the only time they could meet was when the tide
brings these two islands together.
 As the time changes and the centuries go by the water stopped rising and
these two lovers went for a long lasting sleep until they meet again. Today
it is believed that if lovers look at this giant in the eye and wish for a life
long happiness, they will find it.
WSB UNIVERSITY
Hellenistic Theatre
 The Hellenistic theatre from the early 1st century BC was built on a slope
by the sea. The once surely wooden stage house has not been preserved.
The cavea, open to the sea, holds 26 rows of seats.
 Founded by the Lycians, Antiphellos was the port city of the mountain
town of Phellos, 17 km away. The original name of the town was Habesos
or Habesa. The first written mention under the name Antiphellos is a
bilingual tomb inscription from the 4th century BC.
WSB UNIVERSITY
KING’S TOMB-LION’S TOMB
 One of the different grave types seen in Anatolia is the sarcophagus.
 Among the Lycians, the tombs carved into the rocks in some Lycian cities
and sarcophagi scattered on all four sides are the most important works to
date. The most glorious of these sarcophagi is the Lycian monument,
which is located on Uzun Carsi Street in Kas (Andifli) and is called the
King's Tomb. (4th century BC)

HOW TO GET TO KAŞ
 Dalaman airport, one of Turkey’s main touristic air travel
hubs is just 1.5 hour's drive.
 During summer, frequent international flights mean getting
there is easy. The frequency of flights during winter scales
down, but residents also use Antalya Airport, a 3-hour drive
away. Car drivers can use the D400 highway from east to
west of Turkey. Otherwise, the otogar runs local buses
(dolmus) to nearby towns from the otogar (bus station) and
to Fethiye and Antalya, main travel hubs with more services
to reach other destinations around Turkey.
