The Care-for-Rare foundation was founded so that children suffering from rare diseases can gain quicker access to
modern genetic diagnoses and innovative therapeutic methods. Compared to other humanitarian initiatives the
Care-for-Rare Foundationisuniqueinthe factthat itcombinesgivingchildrenwithrare diseasesthe care they need,
withresearchaimedatunderstandingthe underlyingprocessesbehind the diseases and therefore allowing for the
development of new treatments.
The Care-for-Rare Foundation works together with an international network of doctors and researchers. Currently
the Care-for-Rare Foundation is primarily supporting clinical research into diseases of the blood and the immune
system.Moderngeneticresearchonrare diseaseswill hopefullyyield insights into the general biological principles
behindthe diseases. This knowledge will serve not only to help patients with rare diseases, but will also enable a
new understanding of the underlying principles behind frequent diseases, as well as the development of new
treatments in the context of personalised and individualised medical Treatments.
The internshipincludedthe followingtaskswhichenabledMrs.DiazVallejotounderstandthe Lawsandprocessesof
a charitable foundation - inparticularinthe fieldsof public relations, fundraising, project- and event management:
-Design and partial implementation of a Christmas campaign in favor of the Care-for-Rare Foundation, including
research and contact with potential partners and sponsors, designing flyers, obtaining quotations, project
documentation
-Searchingforcooperationpartnersanddonators,fundingopportunities,grants and fundraising assistance, mailing
campaign including designing of fundraising letters
-Assistance in Public Relations, edition work for the C4R Facebook site, the C4R newsletter and designing of print
products
-Assistingthe organizationof the Congress"The Translational Science of Rare Diseases:FromRare toCare II" from 08
to 10 October 2014 at Herrenchiemsee
-Extension of the data set in the address and donor database of the foundation (Microsoft Access 2010)
-Research works
-Active participation in the weekly team meeting
Ms. Diaz Vallejohasintegratedherself withinaveryshorttime in the varioustopicsof a foundationand has pursued
the agreed objectives sustainably and successfully. She was highly motivated and showed an extraordinarily high
degree of initiative andmotivation.She fulfilled her work tasks in a well-structured, reliable way and incorporated
new ideas for successful fundraising and awareness campaigns. She has good organizational skills, and she works
independently and reliably. Ms. Diaz Vallejo completed her tasks to our entire satisfaction.
Ms. Diaz Vallejoisaquickly,friendlyandopen-mindedcharacterandworkedeffectively in the team. Her behaviour
towards supervisors, employees, donors and partners of the Foundation has always been precise.
