2. Disconnect hose assemblies (2).
3. Use Tooling (A) to remove engine oil filter (5).
4. Remove bolts (4) and engine oil filter base (3).

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.
5. Remove plug (9), O-ring seal (8), spring (7), and plunger (6).
6. If necessary, remove stud (10).
Installation Procedure
1. Install engine oil filter base (3) in the reverse order of removal.
a. Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of stud (10). Apply Tooling (B) to a length of
20.0 ± 0.8 mm (0.79 ± 0.03 inch) on stud (10).
b. Tighten stud (10) to a torque of 68 ± 7 N·m (50 ± 5 lb ft).

Engine Oil Cooler - Remove and Install

Required Tools
A - Loctite 242 -
1. Remove two bolts (5).
2. Remove bolts (1) and plate assembly (2).
3. Remove bolts (4) and plate assembly (3).

4. Remove tube assembly (7).
5. Remove bracket (8).
6. Disconnect hose assemblies (10).
7. Remove bolts (9), oil filter base (6), gasket (13), engine oil cooler (12), and gasket (11).

8. Remove plug (14), spring (15), and check valve (16).
1. Install engine oil cooler (12) in the reverse order of removal.

a. Tighten bolts (9) in numerical sequence as shown in Illustration 5. Again tighten bolts
(9) in numerical sequence.
b. Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of bolts (1), (4), and (5).

Air Cleaner - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the
component must be cleaned. Cleaning will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal
mechanism.
1. Open doors (2) and (1).

2. Remove cover (3).
3. Remove primary filter element (4) and secondary filter element (5).

4. Disconnect hose (6) from the rear side of air cleaner assembly (7).
5. Remove bolts (7) and air cleaner assembly (8).
1. Install air cleaner assembly (8) in the reverse order of removal.

Turbocharger - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat®
products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot
oil or hot components to contact skin.
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.

Steam can cause personal injury.
Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the
cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare
hand.
Remove the cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure.
Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin
and eyes to prevent personal injury.
1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant
(ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.
2. Open engine hood (1).
3. Remove bolts (2) and plate (3).

4. Remove tube assembly (4), hose (5), and hose (6).
5. Disconnect hose assemblies (7), (8), and (9).
6. Loosen clamp (10) and disconnect hose.

7. Disconnect tube assembly (11).
8. Remove nuts (13), turbocharger (12), and gasket (14).
1. Install turbocharger (12) in the reverse order of removal.

Water Temperature Regulator - Remove and Install
SMCS - 1355-010
Removal Procedure

Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for
installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this
helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam and alkali.
At operating temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The
radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot coolant or
steam. Any contact can cause severe burns.
Remove cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure only
when engine is stopped and cooling system pressure cap is cool enough
to touch with your bare hand.
Do not attempt to tighten hose connections when the coolant is hot, the
hose can come off causing burns.
Cooling System Coolant Additive contains alkali. Avoid contact with
skin and eyes.
1. Drain the engine coolant into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation
and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities".

3. Disconnect hose assemblies (2), (5), and (6).
4. Loosen clamp (7) and disconnect the hose assembly.
5. Remove bolts (4) and water temperature regulator housing (3).
6. Remove gasket (10), water temperature regulator (9), and seal (8) from water temperature
regulator housing (3).
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned
in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts.
Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are
worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

regulator housing (3).

2. Install water temperature regulator housing (3) and bolts (4).
3. Connect hose assemblies (2), (5), and (6).
4. Connect the hose assembly and tighten clamp (7).
5. Close engine hood (1).
6. Fill the engine with coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill
Capacities".

1. Attach a suitable lifting device to radiator (13). The weight of radiator (13) is approximately
21 kg (45 lb)
2. Install radiator (13), bolts (14), and (15). Tighten bolts (14) and (15) to a torque of
100 ± 20 N.m (74 ± 15 lb ft).

3. Attach Tooling (A) and use a suitable lifting device to install hydraulic oil cooler (11). The
weight of hydraulic oil cooler (11) is approximately 63 kg (140 lb).
4. Install hydraulic oil cooler (11) and bolts (12). Tighten bolts (12) to a torque of
100 ± 20 N.m (74 ± 15 lb ft).
5. Install bracket (10) and bolts (9). Tighten bolts (9) to a torque of 100 ± 20 N.m
(74 ± 15 lb ft).

6. Attach Tooling (A) and use a suitable lifting device to install aftercooler (8). The weight of
aftercooler (8) is approximately 34 kg (75 lb).
7. Install aftercooler (8) and bolts (7). Tighten bolts (7) to a torque of 100 ± 20 N.m
(74 ± 15 lb ft).
8. Install frame assembly (4) and bolts (3), (4), and (5). Tighten bolts (3), (4), and (5) to a
torque of 100 ± 20 N.m (74 ± 15 lb ft).

9. Install shroud (2) and bolts (1). Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 55 ± 10 N.m (41 ± 7 lb ft).
