Start By:
A. Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly,
"Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".
Note: SERVICE DATA: TOOLING (A) WILL NOT BE IDENTIFIED IN
PHOTOGRAPHS IN THE REMOVAL OR THE INSTALLATION. THIS TOOLING IS
SHOWN IN ORDER TO ASSIST THE EXPERIENCED SERVICEMAN.

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.
Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the
engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is
not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.
Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and
the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil
filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool
enough to touch with your bare hand.
Personal injury or death can result without releasing all of the
hydraulic pressure.
Release all the pressure from the hydraulic system before any lines are
disconnected.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop
Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
NOTICE
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.
Contamination of the hydraulic system with foreign material will
reduce the service life of the hydraulic system components.
To prevent contaminants from entering the hydraulic system, always
plug or cap the lines, fittings, or hoses as they are disconnected. Cover

any disassembled components and clean them properly before
assembly.
Clean the hydraulic system properly after any major component
exchange or especially after a component failure, to remove any
contamination.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the disassembly procedure, the exterior
of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the
internal mechanism. Precision components can be damaged by contaminants or by dirt. Perform
disassembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected at all
times.
Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube
assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps
to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
1. Drain the hydraulic tank. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7468,
"Hydraulic System Oil - Change".

2. Disconnect seven hose assemblies (1). Disconnect six tube assemblies (2) .

3. Disconnect two harness assemblies (3). Loosen clamp (4). Disconnect hose (5) .
4. Remove bolts (6) .

5. Remove bolts (8). Remove bracket (7). Use two people to remove control valve (9). The
weight of control valve (9) is approximately 34 kg (74 lb).

Control Valve (Work Tool) - Disassemble

Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
A. Remove the Control Valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Control Valve
(Worktool) - Remove".
1. Remove solenoids (1). Remove fittings (2). Remove fittings (3) .

2. Remove O-ring seal (4). Remove O-ring seal (5). Remove O-ring seal (6) .
Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.
3. Remove the plug and O-ring seal (7) .

4. Remove spring (9). Remove check valve (8) .
5. Repeat Steps 3 through 4 for the remaining plugs.
Note: Observe the orientation of the fittings and the accumulator.
6. Remove fitting (10). Remove fitting (11). Remove adapter (12). Remove fitting (13) .

8. Remove spring (15) .
9. Repeat Steps 7 through 8 for the remaining plug.

10. Remove the cap and O-ring seal (16) .
11. Remove relief valves (17) .

13. Remove spring (18). Remove the screen and washer (19) .

14. Remove spool (20). Remove the plug, the O-ring seal, and spring (21) .
15. Remove spool (22) .

17. Remove spring (24) .
18. Remove fitting (25). Remove relief valve (26). Remove spool (27) .

19. Apply heat to bolt (31). Remove bolt (31). Remove washer (30). Remove spring (29).
Remove washer (28) .

21. Remove spring (33). Remove check valve (34) .

1. Install check valve (34). Install spring (33) .

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily
injury.
To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure
and wear protective equipment.
2. Install the cap and O-ring seal (32). Torque the cap to 25 ± 3 N·m (18 ± 2 lb ft).

3. Install washer (28). Install spring (29). Install washer (30). Apply Tooling (A) to the threads
of bolt (31). Install bolt (31). Torque bolt (31) to 10 ± 1 N·m (89 ± 9 lb in).
4. Install spool (27). Install relief valve (26). Torque the relief valve to 10 ± 1 N·m (7 ± 1 lb
ft). Install fitting (25) .
5. Install spring (24) .

11. Install relief valves (17). Torque relief valves to 45 ± 5 N·m (33 ± 4 lb ft).
