This document provides instructions for removing and disassembling and assembling the piston pump (hydrostatic) on a 279C2 Compact Track Loader. The removal procedure involves disconnecting hoses and harness assemblies, removing mounting bolts, and lifting the pump off. The disassembly procedure involves removing valves, coils, cartridges, seals, and other components. The assembly procedure describes installing these components in reverse order and adjusting set screws to center the swashplate. 3. Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat®
products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the removal procedure, the exterior of
the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the
internal mechanism.
Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all harness assemblies, and
on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies.
This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

8. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to piston pump (9). The weight of piston
pump (9) is approximately 73 kg (160 lb).

17. Use a suitable measuring device to center the swashplate. Measure the distance that is from
the machined face of the housing to both sides of the swashplate. Adjust setscrews (23) to
achieve the same distance to the swashplate.
