Start By:
A. Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic
System Pressure - Release".
B. Tilt the cab. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Cab - Tilt".
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.
Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the
engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is
not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.
Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before
removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when
the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with
your bare hand.

before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop
Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines and on all cylinders for installation purposes. Plug all
lines. This will help to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the
system.

1. Remove retaining pin (1) and lower the loader lift arm brace onto the lift cylinder.

2. Disconnect tube assemblies (2) and (3) .
3. Remove bolt (4), pin assembly (6), and spacer (5) from the rear of the lift cylinder.
4. Use Tooling (A) to remove snap ring (7) .

5. Remove pin (9) and loader lift arm brace (8) .
6. Use a hoist and a lifting sling to remove lift cylinder (10). The weight of the lift cylinder is
approximately 73 kg (160 lb).
7. Repeat Steps 1 through 6 for the opposite lift cylinder.

approximately 73 kg (160 lb).
2. Position loader lift arm brace (8) and install pin (9) .

3. Use Tooling (A) to install snap ring (7) .
4. Install spacer (5), pin assembly (6), and bolt (4) to the rear of the lift cylinder.
5. Connect tube assemblies (2) and (3) .

7. Repeat Steps 1 through 6 for the opposite lift cylinder.

1. Open the engine access door.
2. Remove cable strap (1) and disconnect harness assembly (2) .

3. Remove bolts (4) and bracket (3), if equipped. Position the harness assembly out of the way.
4. Disconnect hose assemblies (5) and (6) from both sides of the lift arm assembly.

5. Use Tooling (A) to remove inside snap ring (7) and pin (8) in order to release left side lift
cylinder (9) from the lift arm.
6. Remove retaining pin (10) and lower the loader lift arm brace onto the lift cylinder.
7. Use Tooling (A) to remove inside snap rings (11) .

8. Remove pin (13) and loader lift arm brace (12) .
9. Use Tooling (B) to support the rear of the machine.
10. Attach a hoist and lifting slings to lift arm assembly (14) .

11. Remove bolt (16) and pin assembly (15) from both sides of the lift arm assembly. Remove
the lift arm assembly. The weight of the lift arm assembly is approximately 238 kg (525 lb).
