Bearings are machine elements that support an applied load and reduce friction between relatively moving parts. There are two main types: rolling contact bearings, which transfer load through rolling elements like balls or rollers, and journal/sleeve bearings, which transfer load through a thin film of lubricant. Bearings must be selected based on factors like load type (radial, thrust), speed, life requirements, space limitations, and accuracy. Common bearing types include ball bearings, roller bearings, tapered bearings, and linear bearings. Proper bearing selection, mounting, and lubrication are necessary to ensure long life and reliability.
We may classify failure of gears into four categories: 1 – Pitting, 2 – Wear, 3 – Plastic flow 4 – Breakage. The visual aspect of the various adversity and failure modes can differ between gears that have through hardened and those that have surface hardened teeth.
A universal joint is used to transmit rotational motion between two intersecting shafts that are inclined at an angle. It allows the angle between the shafts to vary during operation. The main application is connecting the gear box to the differential or back axle of automobiles. It also transmits power to different spindles of drilling machines and is used as a knee joint in milling machines. The velocity of the follower shaft fluctuates between a maximum and minimum value while the driver shaft rotates at a constant velocity. A polar diagram shows the angular velocity of the driver as a circle and follower as an ellipse, with their velocities equal at four points per cycle.
The document discusses suspension systems and components. It provides three key objectives of suspension systems: 1) To provide good ride and handling performance by ensuring wheels follow the road profile with minimal tire load fluctuation. 2) To ensure steering control is maintained during maneuvers by keeping wheels in the proper position. 3) To ensure the vehicle responds favorably to braking, accelerating and cornering forces from tires by resisting body movement. It then discusses various suspension types, kinematic analysis methods, force analysis, and concepts like roll center analysis and anti-dive/anti-squat characteristics.

The Windproof and Waterproof Smock is the same item with a different lining.
The Waterproof Smock is highly breathable and has the powerful advantage
of allowing the user to dispense with any heavyweight waterproofs. The
Windproof Smock, whilst water-repellent has a less expensive lining. We
recommend that it be used in conjunction with the ultra-light and compact
Arktis Rainshield to provide a waterproof system, again dispensing with the
need to carry bulky and heavy outer waterproof garments.
FEATURES
B210 Windproof Smock uses a microfibre ripstop lining (70gm2
).
Features pockets as shown.
B310 Waterproof Smock uses the now famous Proline waterproof/breathable lining, seam-sealed and 60gm2

34. COTTON/POLYESTER RIPSTOP GARMENTS
These items utilise a waterproof/breathable internal dropliner with a water repellent outer fabric. For care, just
be sensible. These garments will stand up to the elements, but human ingenuity combined with the chemicals
that are used in commercial laundries has been known to do damage.
Really heavily crusted dirt can have a wicking effect, and reduce the waterproof performance. You can machine
wash these garments safely using light detergents. After a couple of years you can enhance the inner
dropliner by ironing the outer garment with a hot iron. You can also restore the water repellency of the outer by
using the correct NIKWAX or similar product - spray on applications work best in this regard as wash-in
applications can affect the breathable performance. Generally, when drying the garment, remember that the
garment is waterproof not flameproof and don’t set the dryer on a maximum temperature.
WATERPROOF NYLON GARMENTS
Most technical finishes are achieved by heating processes. Very high temperatures can alter performance.
There were some people in a prison laundry who did manage - once - to boil the high level characteristics out of
a batch of jackets we had supplied to a team of prison guards, so it is definitely possible to ensure that the
warden gets wet! Normal treatment, however, allows for plenty of abuse of these products.
HIGH VISIBILITY MATERIALS
The standards of visibility were designed and developed by a bunch of people who seemingly were not
employed to worry about what would happen to the high visibility performance after the garments have been
worn in working conditions for months on end. High visibility fabrics - unless heavily coated in a non breathable
process - take on dirt very easily.
Dirt can be removed by long-cycle washing and the use of a cloth (not too much abrasion). Oil stains require
patience, and may need a couple of repeats of the same process. Our fabrics are treated with a process that
makes it difficult for the oil to “stick” to the fabric, but this process does not cover all eventualities.
The reflective tapes used on high visibility suffer from abrasion unless coated. We advise that REFLEXITE
reflective tape be used, but it does affect the price.
WEBBING MATERIALS
Most of these are supplied in IRR camouflage. Do be aware that the IRR properties are affected as soon as dirt
accumulates - because dirt has IR characteristics of its own. If you want to clean your webbing, soapy water
and a light scrubbing brush will do the trick.
