The document provides details on the creation of a casting call poster for a short film. It describes the process of designing and refining different elements of the poster, including testing different background designs, fonts, and layouts for the title, description, roles, and contact information. The goal was to create an eye-catching poster that fits the horror theme of the film and provides the necessary details to attract potential cast members. Various design elements and placements were tried and modified until a final poster design was achieved.
2. To actually be able to make a start on the production stage, an important
factor requires for me to have a cast be involved with the filming.
Luckily, I donโt need many people involved as the main characters I have
written into the script include the main three of the group, the spirit of Mary
Ann Cotton and finally the lecturer teaching history at the very beginning.
Other than that, itโs just the extras to play as the history students. One of
those extras will have a one liner but thatโs everyone really. Just need to find
the cast now.
To find my cast, the options I am currently aware of involve asking people I
know, finding drama students who could be interested, and/or posting a
casting call on a few Facebook groups and see who would be interested
in the experience.
The first thing I am going to do though, is to create a casting call poster to
help catch the attention of those who could be willing to take part.
3. Sketching up to prototypes before working on the final product for the
poster, two had been designed helping me get an idea of what to
include.
4. Thinking about the background
first, a paper design was trialed
giving the poster more of a
traditional look. Seeing how it
looks though, I can't say that I
am too fond of it.
Having a debate on making the
product bright and eye catching
or gloomier, I believe the darker
look will have to be the aim, so
it fits in more with the base of
the short film.
After a quick search, this
black yet scratchy back drop
seems to be the best one I
could find.
At least just for now, I will be
trying the design out with this
one. If a change is needed
nearer the end, then that is
easily doable. Don't need to
waste too much time on this.
Clicking from font to font, it was
difficult finding the one to fit best. But
eventually, 'UKIJ Chiwer Kesme' was
found and will be the main title font.
It's bold, but not too bold,
clear, simple yet has that tone.
And overall, it's not too much.
5. Browsing through the
additional elements, a cut out
of film tape had been used to
underline the title, separating
the title from the information
whilst still keeping that
filmmaking element in there. I
don't think I will be keeping it
in though as I am unable to
slim the image down.
Otherwise, I might have gone
for it.
Trying it at the top of the
page instead, I did come to
prefer that but was only put
off by the contact between
the text and the image.
Adding a lift tone onto the
text, right away the result
was fixed.
Then considering the color
for the text, red was the go-
to as it shows importance,
draws attention and it even
links in the horror theme.
Adding onto the
design, the tape
elements were
copied and pasted
allowing a second
version to be placed
at the bottom of the
poster preventing it
from appearing so
bland. That may
change since I do still
have more to add on
to the product.
Just to allow more room
for further information,
the title had been sized
down slightly, still needing
to keep the large look.
6. Needing the
description placed, I
need to at least
produce something
that makes those who
see this poster want
to be a part of the
production.
The first attempt
sounded boring, to me
at least. Adjusting it,
the second attempt
appears better but
maybe now 'it'.
Whilst thinking of another way
to have the description, the text
had been tilted adding a
dramatic flare to the poster
with a few additional pieces
next to it making the filming
part more clear.
I think... I might like this better? Mainly the
second part. Ghostly terror might be a better
way to put it? As for the first half, I can't think
of another way to word it so that might have
to be left as is.
Ghostly has been added, although it might
have made the text a bit of a mouthful which
is not what I want for the description.
Thinking of the
supernatural idea
though, this had also
been added.
7. Now this part is a pain. Initially, I was going to make all the
text one font with the 'terror' word being different.
But when using 'Canva' apparently every sentence must be
in the same font. I did try putting terror on its own, but it
didn't look right.
Trying it all with on filter, I had found one I really liked as it
looked exactly like the text you would find on a film poster
or book cover that gives a hint to what the story will unfold.
But because of the last word being in red, it is more difficult
to read.
Sizing it up two, I wasn't sure that was going to work until I
realized I could check out the design on full screen. Looking
at it that way, I have nothing to worry about with it.
Unsure of how to put this section at first,
whether I should have named the characters
and described them or just asked for
requirements.
Looking at existing products online, all of the
posters revealed to do it differently so
inspiring mine off of one I had come across I
just went with what I believed would work.
Although it bothers me that I'm asking for
these particular people, and they won't have
a clue what they would be signing onto so
adjustments will be made once again.
Needing to figure out the
text for the casting, in the
end I believe I have
included the necessary
information.
Finding it difficult to find a
placement, the film tape
that went along the
bottom of the poster had
been moved making it
slide downwards instead
giving more room to the
other information.
8. Adding more red to the design, the titles
given to the characters had been
highlighted allowing those reading it to
find the different roles easier.
Looking back at the main title,
the lift effect didn't really
stand out as much as I would
have preferred.
Trying the shadow effect
instead, the colour had been
changed to black, given a
slight blur then done!
Needing to provide a deadline so I can
begin shooting, two weeks from the day of
the posters creation has been placed
giving people enough time to come across
the opportunity as well as allowing me to
get the last of pre-production complete.
Envisioning the placement like a stamp, a
tilt has been given adding a dramatic flare
to the text.
As well with the placement, the 'RIP'
image had been sized down and moved to
the bottom right hand corner allowing
room for the final details.
9. Adding on to the stamp idea, the result of the background
effect I am unsure about.
The font will be changed as the first attempt could look
better, I believe.
But the effect... it doesn't really seem to work so might
have to be scrapped.
Also, an additional exclamation mark was added.
With a lot of changes, the font had been switched to a thinner style
with sharper edges being clearer to read and resulting tidier.
Trying to fix the background on the text, there was nothing that would
work so as I had said, it has been scrapped. Testing the other effects,
an echo was placed in the colour red which I find to be placed much
way better.
Still wanting a background of some sort, a simple line was placed four
times putting the text in a box. Trying red, with the echo being that
colour it blended in too much so was then switched to grey. And not
finishing there, the lines were then adjusted to have more of a dotted
outcome.
10. Final requirement, the contact information. I am still on trying to figure out how to have this written out.
Trying the usernames as such a different colour to stand out, it looked slightly odd. Trying the names of the platforms in
red, that looks odd.
Adding the bold font onto the text, it all blends in too much then removing the boldness from the usernames
themselves, again it might have not been the easiest to read.
Even the placement I am having a tough time with.
11. Walla, the final product!
The text may look small here, but on full
screen it is all very clear just for some
reason I am unable to snip the image like
that.
Now to get it printed and advertised.
12. Coming up with a new idea for presenting
the contact details, png files of the logos
were downloaded from the website
'pngaaa.com' and was placed alongside the
usernames.
With definitely nothing more
to be changed, the product
is ready.
