In the early 2000s, the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh recognized the need to attract and engage young adults between the ages of 22-45. The Federation's Shalom Pittsburgh program was revamped to focus on this age group. In 2007, the Hillel Jewish University Center partnered with the Federation to create J'Burgh, a program tailored specifically for Jewish graduate students and young professionals in Pittsburgh. J'Burgh engaged over 600 young adults in its first year and aims to connect and retain more Jewish people in their 20s and 30s in the local community and organizations like Shalom Pittsburgh.
