Beyond Expectations: BRSP Improves Village Health
1. Beyond Expectations
1 | P a g e
I, Shakira Bibi a resident of Killi Patkin Kharan, comprising of 96 households with a population of
approximately 303. The distance between the village & main road is around 75km, whereas; from the
designated field unit of BRSP at Sarawan is around 98km, mainly our villagers are deprived and the
economy depends on cropping & livestock; considering the depriving environment at our village;
mainly our men have a preference to look for work in the urban areas of the districts to augment
the source of revenue.
Intricacy in the village is agonizing caused by unavailability of hospital facilities such as; nonexistence
of medicines, nonexistence of medical equipments and absence of doctors & lady health visitors
LHVs. Absence of LHV was due to no proper accommodation arrangement. Poor and deprived
people of our village usually become victims of numerous sicknesses which then later on transforms
into a deadly disease and ends into a fatality. The ill people of the village prefer to travel to Kharan
or Noshki city to get better treatment. Females of the village in particular face complexity in
obtaining appropriate treatment from the local hospital while during pregnancy; the monthly health
check of the mothers regarding appropriate positioning of the child was also an issue due to
unavailability of the amenities at the hospital; as a result while travelling to Kharan or Noshki city in
pursuance of getting suitable treatment for delivering the unborn baby; the mothers usually end up
dying on the way or resulting into a miscarriage. Four cases have been identified at the village where
the mothers of unborn child passed away due to absence of facilities at the local hospital and in
addition another four cases were also recorded where the mother of unborn child had miscarriages
on the way to the hospital.
From the time when BRSP team visited our village; their aim was to focus particularly on females by
briefly introducing BRSP’s future program for development in our village; the team of BRSP
vigorously communicated the message to the villagers regarding forming of Community
Organization; later on with consent of the community people and painstakingly introduced the role
of the community organization and their responsibilities; the people of the village collectively shared
the problems that they were engaged with for resolving the problems and difficulties; after carefully
listening the problems of the villagers regarding health.
BRSP’s dynamic support in carefully listening to the problems and initiating in vigorously carrying out
the health project at BHU Patkin for the villagers to get benefited; with BRSP’s intervention in re-
activation of BHU Patkin; providing of medical equipments, furniture & medicines; presently at BHU
Patkin; the existence of LHV and availability of medicines, furniture & medical equipments; the
people of the village are being benefited accordingly; in addition accommodation arrangements have
also been established for the LHV to perform her duties fervently. I, Bibi Shakira, I was having
complications in the past due to inapt availability of the BHU facilities, however at present I including
the rest of the villagers are also able to get treatment for free; Killi Barshonki & Killi Tazena’s two
females were also diagnosed for the delivery case and were treated at the particular BHU. Apart
from the villagers of Patkin; the residents in close proximity are also acquiring benefits from the
existing BHU.
Due to BRSPs audacious intervention at BHU Patkin; the people of the surroundings are being
looked after in a much more proficient and salutation manner.
The females of the mentioned vicinity at present are determined for prospering from the accessible
facilities at the BHU. The customary life of the agonized females at the locality is an example for
others to learn & improve.
