To meet expansion requirements and market coverage goals, Harris N.A.
purchased Mercantile Bank and acquired a bank branch in Chesterton, Indiana. The
Federal banking regulatory agency questioned if the site was an undisturbed Native
American archeological site. If that was the case, Harris could not use this site for its new
bank branch.

Jones Lang LaSalle coordinated reviews and visits by the Indian bureau of affairs, Indiana
bureau of archeological sites and Federal banking regulatory. We also oversaw the
cooperation and completion of documentation by each entity, determining it was not an
Indian archeological site, making it possible for regulatory approval and bank
construction. After final approvals were obtained, Harris was interested in achieving
LEED certification for the new branch. We performed a LEED assessment, evaluating the
project prototype against the LEED qualifications. After our evaluation Harris selected
the Chesterton site as one of three branches that would apply for LEED Silver
certification.
