Mrs. Chan Hy and her family live in Cambodia. In early 2012, a community health insurance scheme was promoted in her village. Mrs. Chan Hy enrolled her daughter's family but not the rest of her household. Later that year, her 15-year-old son was in a serious accident and needed expensive surgery and treatment. Unable to afford the costs, she had to borrow money. She regretted not enrolling in the insurance, as it would have covered these costs for a low annual fee. After this experience, she enrolled the rest of her family in the scheme and has been promoting it to others in the village.
