Crime is a social issue that affects the community. This is a critical reason why many psychologists and sociologists have presented many perspectives or theories to address the issue. Scientists, to explain the most deviant characteristics among criminals, have presented several theories. Both biological theories and social theories try to explain the cause of criminal traits in an individual. Several theories have alleged that childhood traumatic experiences and post childhood traumatic experiences cause some people to react abnormally to certain actions in life. This is evident in the case of James, who was exposed to a distressing livelihood when he was growing up. This attributed to the violent life that his father exposed his mother to, while he had to witness it, repeatedly.
The outstanding psychological theory that explains the behavior depicted by James is the psychological theory of deviance. The theory explains criminal behaviors based on the following concepts: code of conduct, traumatic experiences and the social environment that affect an individual. The first concept is code of conduct. The theory alleges that individuals are more susceptible to crime, because of the code of conduct that the people are exposed to when growing up. James had a parent who was exceptionally violent, resulting to his criminal traits. The second concept is traumatic experiences. Traumatic experiences play a vital role in shaping an individual to become violent and adapt to criminal behaviors. This is unmistakable because of the abnormal reaction to challenges in life. Lastly, the social environment plays a crucial role in shaping an individual to be a criminal (Herman, 1995). This is evident from the labeling that the society plays on people who are associated with crime. The society has to ensure that it accommodates the reformed criminals, instead of labeling them. The criminal behavior that interests me is forcible rape. Rape is a massive issue of today’s world. This crime is common in almost every country. It’s not specified to one place or race. Rapes are being committed on daily basis in different parts of the world and many of the cases are never reported to the police. That is why it is known to be the most underreported offence. The victims fear to report the crime because there are many stigmas attached to it. It becomes very difficult for the victim to survive in the society. It is a hard task to prove rape as it demands physical signs and evidences. Its difficult to provide enough evidences to prove rape. Rape has nothing to do with someone’s financial status, age or race.
The typical perpetrator of this crime is male gender. Rape is forcefully harassing someone to have sexual contact with him. Rape is against the will of the victim. As far as the race is concerned, this crime has nothing to do with it. The whole world is suffering from it. Each and every country has such offenders. So it literally has nothing to do with race. It totally depends on the mental and psychological behavior of the criminal. The typical age to be noticed for this crime is between teenagers to adulthood like 15-40 years old males. Almost all the criminals of such crime fall under this age. The socioeconomic status plays a vital role in building up such heinous criminals. Chad is a 45-year-old man currently in prison for raping 3 women. Chad had met these women on separate occasions at a bar. In each case, he put Rohypnol in their drinks when they were not looking. He would wait for the drugs to take effect and then take each of his victims to the bathroom and rape them. He reported the rapes were about feeling powerful, and he liked feeling as if he had control over these women.

1 Sexual Offenses and Offenders
There are few groups of individuals who are more reviled than sexual offenders. Though this has been true for more than a century, the past two decades have brought forth intense scrutiny from the public, politicians, and policymakers. Several emotionally-charged cases of child sexual abuse were highly publicized in the 1980s and 1990s, reigniting public intolerance for sexual offenders. And although the incidence of sexual offenses has been decreasing, sanctions for sex offenders have been constantly increasing over the last two decades. Unfortunately, empirical research does not show that such sanctions significantly deter offenders or reduce recidivism, and yet this legislation creates significant financial strain for local jurisdictions and states that must implement the policies (Zgoba et al., 2008). Despite the questionable efficacy of these laws, there is no sign of reducing the sanctions for this group.
This is not the first time historically that society has exhibited a “moral panic” about the dangers of sexual abuse. This panic has waned and ebbed throughout the last century. Jenkins (1998, p. 4) explains that the perception of sex offenders is the effect of “socially constructed realities” influenced by existing social and political ideologies. The public desire to incapacitate sex offenders today is similar to social attitudes in the 1930s, when sexual psychopathy laws emerged to incapacitate those considered to be “unfortunate but dangerous wretches” (Robson, 1999, p. 2). So although empirical research has consistently shown that sex offenders constitute a heterogeneous population of individuals for whom a one-size-fits-all policy will not be effective, such policies regarding the supervision, monitoring, and incapacitation of sexual offenders have gone full circle since the beginning of the century.
The purpose of this text is to provide the reader with a general understanding of sex offenders and the societal responses to them. Historically, sex offender research has focused on why sex offenders commit such offenses, and the characteristics of different types of offenders. Sex offender research today is centered around three general topic areas: (1) the factors associated with sexual offending, including personal characteristics as well as situational variables; (2) sex offenders' risk of recidivism; and (3) the efficacy of polici.

The criminal behavior that interests me is forcible rape. Rape is a massive issue of today’s world. This crime is common in almost every country. It’s not specified to one place or race. Rapes are being committed on daily basis in different parts of the world and many of the cases are never reported to the police. That is why it is known to be the most underreported offence. The victims fear to report the crime because there are many stigmas attached to it. It becomes very difficult for the victim to survive in the society. It is a hard task to prove rape as it demands physical signs and evidences. Its difficult to provide enough evidences to prove rape. Rape has nothing to do with someone’s financial status, age or race.
The typical perpetrator of this crime is male gender. Rape is forcefully harassing someone to have sexual contact with him. Rape is against the will of the victim. As far as the race is concerned, this crime has nothing to do with it. The whole world is suffering from it. Each and every country has such offenders. So it literally has nothing to do with race. It totally depends on the mental and psychological behavior of the criminal. The typical age to be noticed for this crime is between teenagers to adulthood like 15-40 years old males. Almost all the criminals of such crime fall under this age. The socioeconomic status plays a vital role in building up such heinous criminals. Mostly criminals belong to families that are broken or have some issues. The desperation in every society is increasing day by day and it is resulting in increasing this crime rate. Some important factors that play a vital role in perusing the criminals to commit such monstrous crime is pure nudity on television and vulgarity shown in movies and shows.

- 1. Case Scenario 2: James is a 24-year-old male who was Case Scenario 2: James is a 24-year-old male who was referred for a Sex Offender Specific Risk Assessment. James was raised in a family with a mother who was addicted to drugs and an absent father. He reported memories of being sexually assaulted as a young boy. He has obvious developmental delays, has always been in special-education classes, and, for the most part, has had difficulty maintaining relationships. He does have a criminal history involving minor criminal offenses, drug possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia. James listed his name on Craigslist, essentially offering himself as a male escort and a homosexual prostitute. He came under police scrutiny for this behavior and was caught up in a sting operation in which he met an individual who was actually a police officer. He was charged with prostitution, and, as part of the diversion of the criminal justice system, he was ordered to undergo a Sex Offender Risk Assessment. During the assessment, James spoke about his choices in life and his belief that his activities on Craigslist should not be viewed as criminal because he was caught in a sting operation. James described himself as bisexual. During the interview, he appeared confused and seemed to have very loose terms concerning his sexual boundaries and activities.Is James’s behavior criminal and/or deviant in nature?
