Style sheets allow for formatting to be applied and edited easily by referencing an external .css file rather than embedding styles directly in HTML. The document instructs to place style sheets in user folders before starting, view the HTML source to add reference to style sheet in head section, save and preview changes, and then edit the style sheet as needed.
