Oracle Parallel Distribution and 12c Adaptive PlansFranck Pachot
Parallel Distribution and 12c Adaptive Plans
In the previous newsletter we have seen how 12c can defer the choice of the join method to the first execution. We considered only serial execution plans. But besides join method, the cardinality estimation is a key decision for parallel distribution when joining in parallel query. Ever seen a parallel query consuming huge tempfile space because a large table is broadcasted to lot of parallel processes? This is the point addressed by Adaptive Parallel Distribution.
Once again, that new feature is a good occasion to look at the different distribution methods.

The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive function. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.
This document summarizes recent national and international news. It discusses the ongoing BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which has reached the shoreline and is releasing 5,000 barrels of oil per day, putting it on track to become the worst oil spill in history. It also mentions the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland forcing the closure of major London airports and causing flight cancellations throughout the week. Additionally, members of Congress suspended discussions on increasing wages until Monday without explanation.
The Calvert Photography Club meeting focused on improving field trips by finding a dedicated volunteer, determining ideal timing and locations, and brainstorming trip ideas. They also discussed the best and worst places to buy camera gear, answered members' questions, reviewed photos from a past trip, and planned future meetings and assignments before opening the floor to other business.
This document discusses reasons for recycling various materials. It states that recycling is important because some materials are being used up and will run out, recycling uses less energy and causes less environmental damage than extracting raw materials, and metals, paper, timber and plastics can all be recycled. Recycling metals is more cost effective than mining and has less environmental impact. Plastics should be recycled to avoid catastrophic long term effects on the environment from dumping waste plastics.

Steroids can be administered through injections, pills, or patches. While steroids are often seen as dangerous, their adverse health effects have been exaggerated and mainly occur in high doses. In low doses, steroids pose greatly reduced health risks.
The document summarizes food safety practices in food storage and preparation areas. Meats, seafood and poultry were stored separately from other foods and double wrapped with tags noting food type, storage temperature, and expiration dates. Sauces, fruits and vegetables also had dedicated storage with similar labeling. A separate area portioned and repackaged foods for future use along with storage of tags. Each type of food had a designated preparation station to prevent cross-contamination, and hand washing sinks with instructions were provided. Cutting boards were assigned to specific foods and cooking stations displayed proper temperature charts.
The document discusses proposed changes to the No Child Left Behind Act. It notes pros and cons of the original act, including that it challenged students but also led to an emphasis on test taking. The proposed changes would decrease the dropout rate, provide funding bonuses, and offer more flexibility in standardized testing. The conclusion states that while the original act had good intentions, tweaks are needed after lessons learned, and a new administration should support improvements.
The document is a Q&A between a student studying communications and their parents. In response to their parents' questions, the student explains that the field of human communications involves understanding how people communicate in various contexts. They note that there are different tracks of study within communications, such as media production. The student also discusses that degrees in communications can lead to careers such as television producer, advertising executive, entrepreneur, and professor. The student shares salary data for communications graduates and other benefits of studying communications. Finally, the student provides examples of careers pursued by alumni with communications degrees.
