Carrot seeds are actually dry fruits called schizocarps, not true seeds. Carrots do not contain seeds, as the edible part grows underground with the top near the soil surface. Carrot plants are biennial, developing umbels of flowers and seeds in their second year, after first growing leaves and roots underground as an annual crop.
