With colleges and universities offering numerous courses, it is truly confusing making a choice.
For a student, choosing a career path that is far from ones’ interest & ability can cause dissatisfaction in the long run.Hence it is essential to plan a student's career from a long term perspective.

1.)Describe the changes that you believe colleges will need to make over the next 3-7 years to adapt to the following groups in order to be effective in facilitating emotional, physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual development: Homelanders, Millenial students, and Adult learners. In the next few years colleges will need to change to the learning styles of new generations such as Homelanders, Millenial students, and adult learners. Virtual assistants, flipped classrooms and the quantified self are three of the six technological developments that will have a significant impact on higher education within the next five years. Instructors have presented information by lecture since Socrates to the benefit only of linguistic learners. If you're visual or hands-on you've been teacher disabled. Helping students learn according to their learning styles and multiple intelligence preference is finally becoming accepted as an instructional strategy. Many students naturally learn how to learn when they realize they learn better from one resource or strategy over another. For many learners, this concept is too refined or it flies in the face of the teacher authority. Young children like to learn with hands-on methods, but the system quickly moves them to learn by listening. Parents try to help by pointing to smart students and suggesting that their offspring emulate the learning strategies that work for others. Following the path set by others won't work. In fact, we all learn differently. It's a wise parent and facilitative instructor who realizes this and helps the student identify their strategies to meet it. As we work extensively in technology, we see that learners now have access to a variety of instructional strategies. In many cases, the learner selects the path to the strategy. The search for knowledge becomes the learner's intrinsic reward, rather than an extrinsic reward provided by external authority. This may make the learner more motivated because they find it easier to learn. Research in learning technologies may eventually show us that students learn more quickly and deeply so that they apply the information and solve problems. A school can be in the worst neighborhood, but a satellite dish on the roof and fast Internet access on ten classroom computers, positively impacts learning. It could be that we're saving generations of children. Many learning style models exist; my favorite is Albert Canfield's. It has a strong research base, uses clear language, reports in percentiles, and helps stude.

Course 608 discussion
What are your thoughts about the following statement:
Teachers, administrators, and counselors must be prepared and encouraged to bring gender equity and awareness to every aspect of schooling.
Discussion Option
Please discuss your thoughts regarding School and Society and how you might have grown through the assignments and readings.
First student
Indeed it is the reponsibility of teachers, school administrators, counselors to ensure there is gender equity and awareness to all students. Teachers can promote gender equity and awareness when they encourage both boys and girls as capable of taking any subject of their choice. There is no such thing as a subject or course which is seen as the presrve of boys. Teachers can assist students to identify their strengths and weaknesses so that they can receive the necessary instructional assistance. Considering the school administartors, they are the ones who group students according to ability. I think, it is fair to say that they need to assign students to classes they believe the students are capable of taking. Jennifer is allowed to take cooking in addition to her other classes, so she also hopes to be an elementary teacher who can have time to raise her children. The administrators I believe did not help her by assigning her a cooking class. This reinforces the stereotipical role of a woman. On the part of the counselors, they can thoroughly discuss with students their interests so that they can guide them to make the right choice in relations to their career-related subjects. The school counselor in Jennifer's case discouraged her from going to college because it is believed it is the preserve of men and expensive. I think the counselor could have encouraged her and given her directions. Another example is Susan, who is a student who began a college major in science, shifts to anthropology, and later considers to become an elementary school teacher. To me, it looks strange. What she wants to be has nothing to do with what she is studying for her masters degree. It indicates the school counselors did not help to make the right choice. Susan is a typical example of girls who start off with high grades but are discouraged by counselors who are stuck to stereotyppes, so such brilliant students end up taking courses far below their capabilities. Consequently, they join the large pool of unemployed women after graduation.
Second student,
I have learned a great deal from the assignments and readings about School and Society. This course provided me with many opportunities to expand my knowledge and expertise about the Schools of thought (Functionalism, conflict theory, and interpretivist approach), and how the latter approach applies the rules of society in a different way–a game analogy. I have learned that the three theories/approaches differ but at the same time they share similar views/aspects. I have also learned about the capitalist system and how it teaches the stu.

2. There is a law of demand in economics – which says that price is a function of demand and
supply. If demand is more than supply, price will increase and if supply is more than demand,
price will fall. This law is based on a common phenomenon that we observe everyday. Career is
also shaped on these lines. If you take up any profession, you will observe that when demand
was more than supply, the price (salaries and other facilities) were far more than expectations.
Thus students have to pick up courses, which are in demand from industries. There are some
courses for which the government is the protector and demander. These courses are favourite
of students – though I personally believe that government shouldn’t protect courses or make
demander. The government cannot become a good employer. In a competitive world, the
government should confine itself to its basic role – ensuring peace, order and justice and
providing most essential welfare provisions to help the poor.
What courses to pursue ?
The courses in demand today may not remain in demand tomorrow – as the scenario may
change. The courses which will be in demand in the future are going to be the courses which
will depict the changing societal trend. Society is evolving and with changes in society, we will
need people, who will be able to handle new situations.
Don’t follow the crowd?
If you take up a course, which everyone is doing – you are just part of crowd. You will end up
being a part of the crowd. You will find yourself in difficulties in the years to come as there will
be tough competition and you will find supply more than demand. What will happen ? you can
gues…..
Don’t follow others’ dicta?
Do what your inner voice asks you to do. I wish that you should pick up a course which can do
justice to your strengths. I wish that you should pick up courses that will enable you to do
something which will satisfy your inner soul. I wish that you should pick up a job, which will be
3. interesting and entertaining for you throughout the life. Don’t pick up a course on the advice of
others. Don’t just be follower, be the leader, creative individual and self-assertive.
Understand career transition
Careers also pass through transition. Initially you are doing some meaningless repeatitive work,
later you reach managerial position and later you become policy maker. Ultimately you think
about being entrepreneurial. This happens with everyone. The youth of tomorrow will reduce
this cycle and would reach the last stage earlier. This means that the youth of tomorrow will
become entrepreneurial much earlier in comparison to the youth of the past.
Look for the clues for the future
The courses that will be in demand in future depends on the clues in the environment. Read
newspapers, attend seminars, attend workshops and you will come to know about the courses
that will be in huge demand in the future (and supply will be less as those courses are not yet
popular).
Be innovative
Society has three types of people – innovative, followers and laggards. You should be
innovative – pick up a not so popular path and enable others to follow you. There will be some
who will never understand the rules of the world and will remain laggard. They will crib, shout,
blame others and curse themselves for their failures. Their life is a lesson for you, learn from
them and adapt yourself before the situation is difficult for you.
Which courses will be in demand?
The courses that will be in huge demand will be those where the society will be un-prepared,
some of these sectors are : -
4. Courses like ELIP (this course was launched by Gyan Vihar University) will be the courses in hot
demand in the future. The courses that will enable students to prepare for the future – will be
the courses in demand in future. These courses may not have large number of admissions
today, but will be the courses of tomorrow. The important thing is that these courses will build
skills which will be in demand in the future. These courses will enable the participants to build
skills and competencies that will transform the youth for the challenges of tomorrow. Some
other courses that will become popular include the following : -
Courses on NanoTechnology
Courses on Corporate Management – for example : B.Com (Corporate Secretaryship) of Gyan
Vihar University.
Build skills that will address the questions of tomorrow?
Imagine the tomorrow and imagine the questions that will be posed by the people of
tomorrow. Prepare yourself for those times. Just imagine the changing circumstances and
prepare for them. Here I have listed some of the questions that people will pose tomorrow. Are
you prepared for these ?
How to create entrepreneurship among the youth?
How to prepare for sustainable development?
How to create sustainable technologies ?
How to manage companies ?
How to handle administrative work relating to corporate world?
How to handle teams and handle conflicting groups?
How to create innovative work environment?
How to formulate development oriented policies and development oriented projects creating
inclusive developmental framework?
