This document describes a logic game involving filling in capital cities based on clues. The game is played on 12 stages where each stage provides a clue to determine the next capital city. Players must use deductive reasoning and process of elimination to solve the clues and complete the game board. A pen and paper is recommended to map out the logic and solutions as players progress through each stage.

A pen and paper would be very useful to help with this logic
game. The next two slides give the world’s capitals in
alphabetical order, which might also be useful.

4. Stage 1
The direction to follow is shown by the arrows. Each city will begin with
the final letter of the previous one. As there is only one capital which
begins with Z, this means that B1 can be filled in immediately with…

5. Stage 2
…ZAGREB. The clue in B1 tells you that E1 contains…

6. Stage 3
…VATICAN CITY. E1’s clue tells you that C5 must contain NEW DELHI. Now
think back to what the clue in A1 said, and this should help you to work
out what is in D1. (C5 will then tell you the only possible option for C1.)

7. Stage 4
As there is only one capital which ends in ‘V’, D1 must be KIEV. C1 must
begin with B and end with K. C5 tells us that it cannot be Bangkok, so it
must be BISHKEK.

8. Stage 5
C1 Clue: There are only 2 doubly-landlocked countries in the world: Liechtenstein
and Uzbekistan. Liechtenstein’s capital has already featured in A1, so A3 must be
TASHKENT.
Clue D1: E5 is the capital of a country which begins with K and ends with N.
Kyrgyzstan’s capital has already featured, so E5 must be ASTANA.

9. Stage 6
Clue E5: Astana and Vatican City are not in Oceania, so E2, E3 and E4 must be. E2
must begin with Y, so can only be YAREN. E3 begins with N, so can only be
NUKU’ALOFA. E4 begins and ends in A, so it must be APIA.
Clue A3: The only capital that can be written with 6 of the letters in TASHKENT is
ATHENS, so this must be in B3.

10. Stage 7
Clue E3 + E4: These tell us that C3 and D3 have apostrophes. Following the spiral
mentioned in A1, C3 must begin with S and is in the Caribbean, but is not St
George’s. This means that it must be ST JOHN’S.
Clue B3 and C3: Clue B3 implies that B2 NICOSIA, as it is the world’s other officially
Greek-speaking capital city.

11. Stage 8
Clue C3: Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974, so C2 is ANKARA.
Clue B5: (B5 could have been filled in earlier, but if not, the logic is that there is only one
‘I’ capital in the world, i.e. ISLAMABAD.) B5 tells us that A5 is the capital of a country that
begins with Q, Islamabad being the capital of Pakistan, so A5 can only be DOHA.

12. Stage 9
A4 begins with A and ends with T. The only capital that this applies to is
ASHGABAT.
Clue A5: All capitals in Row 5 are in Asia. D5 must begin with A and end with N.
The only Asian capital to which this applies is AMMAN.

13. Stage 10
Clue D5: The only capital that shares 4 of the letters of ASTANA in the same
positions is ASMARA, so the latter must be in D4.
Clue A4: D2 must begin with A and be situated in the Mediterranean. Athens has
already been inserted, so D2 can only be ALGIERS.

14. Stage 11
Clue D4: C4 must begin with A and be the capital of a country which borders
Eritrea. This applies only to ADDIS ABABA.
Clue C4: B4 must be in Europe and begin and end with A. This only applies to
ANDORRA LA VELLA.

15. Stage 12
Referring back to Clue E3, D3 must have an apostrophe. We now know
that it begins with S and ends with A, so it must be SANA’A.
