The coral reefs of the Caribbean are threatened with extinction due to four main factors:
1) Rising sea levels are causing coral bleaching and drowning of reefs as they cannot keep up with the growth rate of seas. The 2005 bleaching event in the Caribbean severely damaged reefs.
2) Overfishing has led to an 80% reduction in fish biomass in some areas like Jamaica in the 1960s and damage to coral from loss of parrotfish and other species.
3) Pollution from coastal development, sewage, and runoff is smothering corals and lowering water quality, allowing more algal growth. Less than 10% of Caribbean reefs now have live coral

The document argues that the Caribbean Court of Justice should replace the Privy Council as the final court of appeal for Caribbean nations. It discusses how there is growing popularity for Caribbean countries to establish their own regional institutions and courts. While the Privy Council has traditionally filled this role, it is not fully representative of Caribbean interests and legal culture. The document proposes that a Caribbean Court of Justice would better serve the region by developing jurisprudence that reflects Caribbean ideals and dynamics.

Global consequences of the industrial revolutionA.B. P.G
The industrial revolution had several global economic and social consequences:
1. It led to large-scale, low-cost, uniform production through the factory system and growth of joint stock companies.
2. It created a capitalist class that owned the means of production and a laboring class, widening the gap between rich and poor.
3. Countries like England grew wealthy through industrialization and became leaders in industry, commerce, and finance, encouraging later colonialism and imperialism to secure resources and markets.
The document discusses the Enlightenment period in Europe, which began in the late 17th century. [1] It emerged as a rejection of traditional religion, superstition, and political instability that had led to wars and conflict. [2] The Enlightenment valued rational thought and scientific inquiry over faith and emotion. [3] It had an aesthetic preference for order, geometry, and Greco-Roman styles over natural complexity and medieval traditions.
European powers launched exploratory voyages between 1400-1800 due to motives like searching for resources, establishing trade routes to Asia, and spreading Christianity. Explorers like Vasco de Gama, Christopher Columbus, Ferdinand Magellan, and James Cook made important discoveries. Technologies like improved ships, compasses, and knowledge of winds and currents enabled more travel. European trading post empires like the Portuguese, English, and Dutch built fortified trading posts throughout Asia and Africa to control maritime trade. The English and Dutch trading companies eventually dominated global trade.
Effects of european settlement in americasA.B. P.G
European settlement in the Americas had profound effects on both native peoples and the newcomers. They exchanged knowledge of food items, widening each other's diets. Over time, European weapons proved more powerful than native arms, changing hunting and warfare. As European communities grew and resembled European towns, native villages were often destroyed or displaced. Europeans also tried to impose their Christian religions and languages on native populations, though native spiritual practices and some languages survived. The landscape and culture of the Americas was largely shaped by this encounter between European colonists and the indigenous peoples.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
