DLR- Daily Language Review Students will read a sentence with errors. They will correct the grammatical errors. As the year progresses they will identify types of sentences,separate subject and predicate, and color code the parts of speech.
Spelling Homework May include… Writing words in  cursive Word Sorts ABC order Practice worksheets Using words in sentences- I may or may not ask them to identify subject/predicate, or color code. Practice tests Post test Friday

Independent Reading Students are expected to read 3 novels per trimester.  They can either write a book report or take a reading counts test. They can earn homework passes for extra reading.  Example… books 6,9,12…
Writing… Six Traits of Writing Ideas Organization Word Choice Sentence Fluency Conventions Presentation Posting writing to the blog for comments regarding revisions based on the traits. End of the year book   Special viewing at the end of the year. Usually, the last few days of school around 1:15-2

Assignment Notebook Fill it out daily Parent Signature Watch for late assignment notes Can be used for communication between parents and teacher.
Late Assignments Your student will staple a blue slip in their assignment book identifying the late assignment.  Please sign it and leave it in the planner. Refer to your 5th grade information packet for the late work grading policy.
Absences Students are given one day for every day missed to make up assignments. It is the student’s responsibility to check with each teacher regarding missed work. If a student is  gone for a day and there is a test scheduled, or an assignment due the day they return, they are expected to take the test.  Students may spend recess on the day they return meeting with teachers, and/or getting caught up on  class work. Students need to make sure that all of their work is completed and turned in to the appropriate teacher.
