CALIPSO is an Earth observing satellite launched in 2006 as part of the A-Train constellation to measure clouds and aerosols using an innovative lidar system. It is a joint mission between NASA and CNES aimed at improving understanding of the role of aerosols and clouds in climate change. The satellite was developed by a team from NASA, CNES, various research institutions, and Ball Aerospace.
