St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has helped increase the cure rate for acute lymphoblastic leukemia to 95% and ensures families never receive bills, but it costs $2.2 million per day to operate. Public contributions cover about 75% of costs, with 82 cents of every dollar going to research and treatment.
