Bulgarian weddings involve several traditions and rituals. Friends and relatives first prepare and send wedding invitations. A few nights before the wedding, the groom and bride have separate stag and hen parties to say goodbye to single life. On the wedding day, the couple goes to the wedding hall or church where the priest performs the ceremony. A ritual involves the bridesmaid placing a white cloth in front of the newlyweds, and there is a belief that whoever steps on the other's foot will be the dominant one in the marriage. Several symbolic rituals like breaking bread and throwing the bouquet take place during the wedding celebration.
